It's 2015 and the lists are already pouring out all over the interwebs. Figures that my first post of 2015 (if you ignore my 2014 Recap) is none other than a list as well. Meh, I love movies so here we go!

(as always you can see this and my other ramblings at my blog: phoenixwave.com)

#10 - The Good Dinosaur

I don't know anything about this film coming out other than what IMDB can tell us. All you really need to know is that it's a movie by Pixar and other than Mosters University and Cars 1 & 2 have they ever steered us wrong?

(release date: November 25th)

#9 - Inside Out

Two animated films back to back to start off the list!? Oh yes, Pixar is going to wow us with 2 potential heavyweights in the animation category and I for one welcome it. The more quality original stories the studio can produce, the better off we all are - as well as our children. (IMDB)

(release date: June 19th)

#8 - Mission Impossible 5

I will admit that I was not on board with Mission Impossible 4 but I'll also admit that I was horribly wrong to misjudge it. Like him or hate him, Tom Cruise knows what he's doing when it comes to portraying Ethan Hunt and I'm pretty sure that we're all excited to see what the next mission will be. Granted there isn't much to know about this one either (IMDB) but suffice it to say that if we've learned anything from the 4th installment it's that we should expect good things.

(release date: July 31st)

#7 - Chappie

I'd consider Chappie the dark horse for my 2015 lineup. I believe that the creators behind District 9, arguably one of the best sci-fi flics to be shown in the past 15 years, have another gem on their hands. Using the familiar story of AI becoming self aware but spinning it by giving the robot more of a child like state and having it "learn" and want to be a hero, seems like a very intriguing twist to me. Added bonus for Sharlto Copley's voice being spot on for Chappie's character. (IMDB)

(release date: March 6th)

#6 - Spectre

Daniel Craig is back at it again and according to the synopsis provided by IMDB, it seems that our favorite British spy will be worth the price of admission again. Who agrees with me that if it wasn't for Sean Connery being the original Bond Daniel Craig would definitely go down as the best rendition of the character? (some might argue that he IS the BEST regardless). Throwing in Christoph Waltz as the main villain will undoubtedly be a treat. I'm ready to jump back in with James and see what he uncovers about Spectre.

(release date: November 6th)

#5 - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2

As I stated in the blog a while back, Part 1 of the Hunger Games finale left me somewhat bored and disappointed. I'm sure that Part 2 will blow my mind and deliver on everything I'm hungrily waiting for. (see what I did there?) Let's hope that Jennifer Lawrence can pull of the last act with some convincing anger and determination. (IMDB)

(release date: November 20th)

#4 - Furious 7

We all know that Paul Walker is gone and it sucks. We all know that they decided to continue on with the Fast and Furious 7 and I'm hoping that the 7th might be the last. The franchise has gone away from what I really loved about it, the fast cars, but that's not to say that it hasn't been a fun and exhilarating ride. (oh, pun intended) Everyone is hoping that they give Walker's character the send off that both makes sense for the film and that the beloved actor deserves. I haven't missed a single debut of this series in the theater (yes, I even saw Tokyo Drift) and I don't intend to miss this one. (IMDB)

(release date: April 3rd)

#3 - Avengers: Age of Ultron

What many are considering their most anticipated film of 2015, I've placed at #3 on my list simply for the fact that I'm a tad burnt out on super hero movies. I say a tad because let's face it, I'll still see this film because I'm not any less excited about it regardless if there are tons of super hero movies coming out every year. Marvel definitely set the tone of how to do cinematic universes right and DC is still struggling to keep up. With the first Avengers surprising everyone, and me not seeing it in theater, I'm pretty pumped to get the chance to see the 2nd round on the big screen. (IMDB)

(release date: May 1st)

#2 - Jurassic World

Say what you want about the 2nd and 3rd films in this particular series but I'm a fan of all of them. Each have their own respective qualities that I adore sure ... but ya know what, I just love dinosaurs. I can remember sitting down at a restaurant (not sure which one) and my parents telling my brother and I all about the book Jurassic Park and how they were going to be making it into a film. As a kid, All I heard was, "blah blah blah, scientific research, blah blah blah, DINOSAURS, blah blah blah, MOVIE, blah blah blah" etc. You can bet your butt that I was super excited! Now that good ol' Steven Spielberg is backing the film, I think there are plenty of people, myself included, hoping that this will be a return to the spectacle that the first film was. Granted I have my worries on the "genetically engineered" dinosaur being thrown in, but with the cast that they've put together along with the park being fully functional I think we're in for a completely different story. (IMDB)

(release date: June 12th)

#1 - Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens

Do I really need to explain why I'm excited about this? Sure I got just as excited about the Phantom Menace back in 1999 but this is all different now. We've got J.J. Abrams at the helm and George is thankfully out of the picture. If the teaser trailer tells us anything, its that we can expect epic things from the revitalization of our favorite space adventure. I was surprised by how much flac the trailer caught by showing the "cross" lightsaber and some other intricate moments. I guess if you're a fan then you're a fan and you don't get hung up on those little details. Seeing the familiar Millennium Falcon and X-Wings sure did bring a smile across my face and I definitely consider this to be my most anticipated movie of 2015 - seriously, I just watched the trailer 5 times just now and I got chills. (sorry Celeste...you don't have to see it with me) (IMDB)

(release date: December 18th)

Honorable Mentions:

  • Jupiter Ascending
  • Ex Machina
  • Child 44
  • Mad Max: Fury Road
  • Entourage
  • Terminator: Genisys
  • Ant Man
  • St. James Place

So that's my top 10 movies to look forward to for 2015. Would your list be any different? Let me know in the comments and may the force be with you!
