2015 has a rather remarkable lineup in store for those out there that love video games. In the third quarter of this year alone, gamers will be treated to two instalments of famously cinematic franchises; Crystal Dynamics' Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One and Naughty Dog's Uncharted 4 on PS4.

With two of gaming's most famous characters getting a release date this year, I'm wondering which title has more potential on NextGen consoles. Now, I'm not talking graphically, I couldn't care less which game looks better on which console. What I'm interested in is whether Nathan Drake's narrative has what it takes to trump Square Enix's troubled Lara Croft.

Now, we know that Lara Croft's second adventure with the team of Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix has been revealed as an Xbox exclusive, with the Xbox 360 version being handled by an outside studio, Nixxes Software. Hmm...LastGen really is getting the boot now. However, it is timed. And whether that be in the sense of the franchise's future with Microsoft is timed or its just this game is still unknown. Therefore, we may still see Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4 at some point.

But for now, the two consoles are battling out for the greatest action adventure game of the year. Naughty Dog has a reputation for outstanding game design, especially seeing as they just came off of The Last of Us. But I have faith in Lara, and there are plenty of interesting places the developers could take her and her character.

Rise of the Tomb Raider will see Lara venture into the depths of Siberia. The game follows Lara Croft and Jonah Maiava as they discover an ancient city built by the Grand Prince of Vladimir in the 13th century. According to recent updates thanks to Game Informer, Lara is dramatically damaged by the events of the previous game. Thrust back into the real world, no one believes her story about her confronting a supernatural entity.

The game may also take place in two separate locations, as a desert and forest location were hinted at. Therefore, we may be seeing a lot of Russia's nature in Rise of the Tomb Raider, with an increased degree of puzzle solving and tomb raiding thrown in. There will also be a day/night cycle, with weather playing a pivotal role in the game. You will have to adept to adverse weather conditions and so will the animals around you.

Personally, this sounds truly fantastic. I'm dying to see how Lara is going to be able to cope with traumas of her past, as well as face new foes in a harsh environment. I feel as if the Uncharted series may be stretched a bit far with Nathan Drake on his fourth adventure, but who knows? I mean Neil Druckmann is directing!

Drake's story sees us return to similar looking settings that the first game introduced. Islands of lush vegetation are spread all around us, with a variety of navigable paths to choose from. Drake has some new gadgets to use and a brother to accompany him. He'll have to deal with situations that test his bravery and devotion to those he loves. Sacrifices lie ahead for Nathan, and we're excited to see how Naughty Dog wrap up this great franchise.

But the question remains, which release date are you more excited for? Which lead are you more interested in? Be sure to let us know in the comments gamers!
