The reviews are mixed for the Wachowski siblings' Jupiter Ascending. The critics agree that it is no Matrix. Jupiter Ascending is basically, as critic Matt Pais notes, "a black hole where fun goes to die."
This may be the start of a downward trend for the big budget blockbuster cinema. Will we be seeing more visually dazzling, fabulously done set design pieces with recycled plots and cardboard dialogue? Is the future going to be all eye-candy heroines and gruff buff heroes ala Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum?
This is the kind of big budget spectacle where the concept art and posters are better than anything up there on the screen. A few weeks back I gave you a sneak peak of the concept art created for the film by Philippe Gaulier and Olivier Pron. Now, take a look at 10 alternate posters created by ad agency Art Machine and Little Giant Studios.
Art machine has done posters for The Book of Life, Pan, The Maze Runner, Exodus: Gods and Kings, Game of Thrones and The Flash television series. They are based in Los Angeles.
Not much is known about Little Giant Studios. Their similar style to Art Machine makes me suspect that they are their doppelgänger.
I still have faith in the Wachowskis and believe that a good 50% of Jupiter Ascending will have something astounding action-wise that will justify the price of the ticket. Jupiter Ascending opens everywhere tomorrow, February 6th.
