After the news of Felicity Jones starring in the the first Star Wars stand-alone film was reported by The Hollywood Reporter, it has given us time to wonder what Lucasfilm/Disney are up to.

Here is what we do know:

Lucasfilm has said that it is to be released on Dec. 16, 2016.

Which means it will be released a year after Star Wars: The Force Awakens scheduled for Dec. 18, 2015.

Gareth Edwards

Gareth is directing the Star Wars stand-alone.

It is fair to say that Gareth Edwards is one of the most creative directors of a generation. For anyone that doesn't know - he is an English director, screenwriter, cinematographer, production designer, and visual effects artist.

He directed the 2014 version of Godzilla, after the success of his independent film Monsters

Edwards is to direct one of three planned Star Wars stand-alone movies, with a second directed by Josh Trank who is also directing the new Fantastic Four film.

The plan has always been for Gareth to direct a different film before we started on another Godzilla, but who knew it would a Star Wars installment? We have a great plan in store for Godzilla fans and I am looking forward to seeing Gareth's imprint on the Star Wars universe.

Chris Weitz

Gary Whitta submitted a first draft for Star Wars: The Force Awakens earlier this month, however last week he was replaced by Chris Weitz as the writer for the new film.

To Chris' credit, he has a variety of talents that would be a great help to the project at hand. He has directed The Golden Compass, co-wrote and directed About A Boy. He is no stranger to a big-budget Sci-Fi / Fantasy!

He has even been invited on to the set of King Kong by Peter Jackson so he could gain more insight to directing a big budget film and how to deal with it.

So I have complete faith in Chris to bring his expertise as a director, screenwriter and author to the Star Wars films.

Felicity Jones

Felicity is the first to join the cast.
Felicity is the first to join the cast.

British actress Felicity Jones first became known for her role on BBC's radio show The Arches, after which she landed a role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Felicity has been rumored to be playing the part of a bounty hunter's wife or even Leia.

I am sure within the next few weeks we will get a bit more insight into what role Felicity will have in the new films, the most recent rumors suggest Edwards’ film will star Boba Fett, so the bounty hunter's wife is looking pretty good!

They Are Back!

§The studio confirmed earlier this month that Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford will return to the roles of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo from the original trilogy.

What would we like to see?

Well, to reference earlier with the Bounty Hunter theme to it, I would really like to see a great seedy, dark bounty hunter film. We have already heard the the Hutts could make an appearance in the future films - so for anyone that desperately wanted to see the Star Wars 1313 (game) which was a more gritty look at the Star Wars universe, through the eyes of a bounty hunter.

So we've got bounty hunters, smugglers and the Hutts. Let's make this happen!

What direction do you think they could be taking?
