Sure you have Avengers Age of Ultron coming out this year but not everybody is into superhero films. Whereas almost every generation since the seventies have grown up with Star Wars in their lives. Even today, kids have Star Wars Rebels, the Clone Wars, and the films to watch.
Now we have the Force Awakens, the movie that almost every person says is their number one most anticipated movie of the year. Why is it the perfect family film? Because that's what Star Wars has always been: family films. Sure they had dark moments but their were things for everybody. Fun characters (not counting Attack of the Clones with that), great space battles, extremely fun lightsaber battle, cute sidekicks, some comedy here and there, a mythos that is easy to follow, dark villains you love to hate, some fantasy, sci-fi, and much much more.
Let's take a look at Star Wars the Force Awakens so far:
1. A cute droid for audiences
Whether he is a big part of the film or not is unknown but he is adorable and could allow for some good comedy or just DAWWWW moments. A new R2-D2 for a new generation.
2. You have the great starships!
X-Wings have returned to not only please fans but give newers fans a taste of the original films. Little kids can enjoy these and get the toys whereas adults can watch the spectacle with glee and then collect the statue...totally not the same thing! Oh and let's not forget the big boy!
When most fans think of Star Wars, the first ship they think of is usually the Millennium Falcon and can you blame them? The Falcon is an amazing beautifully designed woman of a ship who kept the original heroes alive and with a home for years and now it gets to help a new gang of heroes. Older fans can squee at the nostalgia whilst the kids can squee at the awesome imagery and pretend to pilot a great machine like the Falcon. Just don't get a scratch on her kids or Han will get you.
3. You have the Villain(s)
Even in the prequels, the Sith managed to be threatening and completely awesome at being bad. People who grow up with Star Wars always mention Darth Vader and/or the Emperor as some of the best villains in cinema history. From the tiny glimpse we got at the villain named Kylo Ren, he does seem threatening and while some might disagree I've met plenty who think the crossguard lightsaber looks amazing. We also have the voiceover by Andy Serkis' character and whether that IS Kylo Ren or not is unknown but he has quite the threatening voice. Two villains or just one, the villains do seem bad, but in the good way.
Gotta have those awesome boys in white as well. Stormtroopers are back and BOY do they look cool.
4. New And Old Together
You have Finn the Stormtrooper,
The girl named Rey,
And Poe Dameron the X-Wing pilot. That makes three new characters to love and heck their might be more that we haven't seen. Basically these three might make up a next gen Luke, Leia, and Han for younger and older fans to enjoy but for fans of the series we even have the big three returning. Whether their roles will be as main characters or not is up in the air but it will still make the fans happy to see Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher return to the roles that made them household names. With older characters and a new cast of characters coming together, it could allow for some great scenes whether it is action, comedy, or even heartfelt talks with each other.
5. The Lightsaber Fights
Let's face it, we all love the Lightsaber duels. Even in the Star Wars movies that suck (Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones), the lightsaber fights were awesome. Take the type of fighting of Revenge of the sith plus the realistic sets and effects of the original trilogy, you are sure to make some fights that are going to be a lot of fun for kids and adults.
6. You have a Director who cares about the people.
Over the years, J.J. Abrams has risen onto my Top 5 favorite directors because of a few things: the man knows what he is doing. He knows what angles to put for a scene, he knows how to make these characters feel real. He also cares about the fans. He is a Star Wars fan himself and he does seem really passionate about this project unlike Lucas who only cared about the story HE wanted, not the fans. I have strong faith that he won't let his own fandom down and he will give us a film for the whole family to sit down, watch, and have fun.
And that is why, Star Wars the Force Awakens will be perfect for the whole family. Do you agree or disagree? Let me known is the comments below!
