Now more than ever is an amazing time to be a comic book fan. With the recent influx of comic book based films and tv shows that are currently on or will be available in the future, there is no clear sign of how it may end. A lot of that credit, in my opinion, goes to the risk taking style of Marvel Studios. Their first chance, Iron Man starring a questionable lead at best in Robert Downey Jr., paved the way for more lesser known or lesser popular characters to shine in the spotlight and helped Marvel gain steam into becoming one of the best studios in film.
They have continued to change the game, with the success of The Avengers as it became the third highest grossing film in film history and creating the singular universe concept that has even DC jumping on board onto the shared universe bandwagon. Now with [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) arriving in theaters this coming May, what are we in store for?
First and foremost, Avengers 2 sees the introduction of the twins, [Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch](movie:1081109), into the MCU. Even though they were originally labeled mutants in the X-Men series, their recent change in status to inhumans has allowed Marvel to be able to tell their story in Avengers 2, even though they already made an appearance in [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](movie:203942). Also, the addition of these characters will shake up the team and future events for the MCU.
Second, Avengers 2 could set the tone for future Marvel products. With the recent release of the Daredevil trailer for Netflix, it is clear that Marvel's Netflix exclusive shows will follow a darker tone and that could possibly spread into the films. Even though projects such as Guardians of the Galaxy and the soon to be released Ant-Man have more of a light hearted and humorous tone, anything can happen, especially with films such as Captain America: Civil War that look to re-write MCU history.
Finally... HULKBUSTER BABY YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All fanboying aside, Avengers 2 will offer a taste as to what we can expect from the phase three and the Infinity War films
Like I said before, Marvel looks to change the face of comic book films from now into the future and the Avengers films will play a key component, with Avengers: Age of Ultron to set the tone for what's to come.
