Liam Neeson has taken the Taken franchise (see what I did there?), most recently [Taken 3](movie:678612), and ran with it. He's become a meme, an international sensation, an incredible Key and Peele skit, and has made a boatload of money off of the three films in the process.
And wait, can you really blame him? A well known, highly successful actor finding steady and good (not to mention bad-ass) work towards the end of his career is admirable and overall, pretty cool.
And I think he knows that...
Well, Keanu Reeves falls under a similar category as Neeson - a former superstar who may have found his own version of Neeson's Taken franchise in [John Wick](movie:1116115) . According to geektyrant, the directors are already in the process of developing a sequel.
And while Keanu already has plenty of memes, I'm sure he wouldn't mind regaining relevance and crushing another John Wick film... and picking up that paycheck of course.
I want to iterate that Keanu actually hasn't been officially selected to reprise his role, but from what I saw from the first film, I really hope he does. Director Chad Stehelski along with his co-director and fellow former-stuntman David Leitch say that it's "in development".
Stehelski is quoted saying,
“We have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original. It’s the matter of story and how much you like the character. That’s always the most important. If there’s great action but you have a character that no one likes and doesn’t have charisma you’re not going to watch it. Look at any great action star, whether it’s Harrison Ford or Liam Neeson or Robert Downey Jr., pick a name, you love the guy first. Good action, bad action, you just love them in action. So we want to make sure we have a story and a character that everybody loves and then we’ll dress it with action that we promise will be awesome.”
I'm not worried about the action at all with a flick done by these two. I really just think it would be tough to replace Keanu. I'm all for round 2 with Reeves!
How did you like 'John Wick'?
