We already knew that Marvel was leading the field with female superheroes these days. Did we? I did. If you weren't aware, check out my other article about 2015 being the year for female superheroes here. There we are. Now back to talking about this article!
USA Today got a hell of a scoop with this one. G. Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel, X-Men) will be writing along with Marguerite Bennett (Angela: Asgard's Assassin). It will be drawn by Jorge Molina (X-Men). It will reportedly debut during the Secret Wars event.
The Marvel universe will be disbanded and scattered in the crossover Secret Wars, leaving a smattering of the universe. The world, according to Wilson, is called Arcadia. A threat rises up, and the heroines rise up to face it.
The team working on the project gets to pick their own line-up, but the catch? They all have to be female. This proves again that Marvel is leading here. An all female team in the comics? A Captain Marvel movie? This all sounds good to me.
The line-up so far will include Nico Minoru (from The Runaways), Dazzler, She-Hulk (YES!), and Medusa. The creating team has also reported they are introducing a new character, called Singularity. A pocket universe instead of a human. She doesn't have a set gender, but chooses to be female. Sounds awesome to me! The gender thing in itself seems to give a sort of comic voice to transgenders. Always cool to have LGBTs in there, and the transgender community seems to be under-represented in the comics so this is definitely a good thing.
A-Force is the 15th Marvel comic to be led by females. Now let's have a look at the image I put at the top again, shall we? It was released with this news, so it could give a rather illuminating view.
Now, right off the top of my head I can name She-Hulk, Jean Grey as Phoenix, Spider-woman, Storm, Rogue, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Wasp and...is that Electra? And beside Electra, is it...SEARCH AND RESCUE? YES! For those who aren't quite as familiar with the character as I am, I'll give you a quick rundown. Search and Rescue is the result of Tony Stark's paranoia. He wanted to make sure his special girl, Pepper Potts, was protected properly. The suit was basically just a glorified bodyguard for Pepper. However, Pepper was having none of that 'women stay at home' crap and went out and started using it to save people herself. For more on my view on what they should do with Search and Rescue's character, click here.
So what do you think? Are you looking forward to this? Oh, and for the original scoop, click here. An Avengers team made solely up of female characters. I think it's pretty cool, but what do you think?
