There's a beacon of hope today, for all of those Panem revolutionaries who are hoping that the journey continues long after [The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2](movie:449866)! The CEO for Lionsgate (the film studio who distributes the series), Jon Feltheimer has spoken out about the possibilities for Hunger Games sequels and prequels!

Damn straight.
Damn straight.

Feltheimer told analysts last week that they were “actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities” for our favorite franchise. No doubt the box office performance of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, which will be released on November 20th, will be the true test to tell whether or not there would be enough fan support for making more films (spoiler alert: there will be).

But if Lionsgate does go ahead with its plan for prequels or sequels for new Hunger Games films, who should they be about? Here are my top three ideas, be sure to let me know your own in the comments!

1. Haymitch's Hunger Games

The only other Hunger Games victor from District 12, Haymitch somehow managed to win the second Quarter Quell when he was just 16-years-old. In the years after his victory he was forced to mentor 23 years worth of tributes, who all died, before Katniss and Peeta came along. Haymitch is an alcoholic and it would be very interesting to see any prequel which shows just what happened to Haymitch both with his Hunger Games, and also with the tributes he mentored, and what sent him down the path of self destruction.

2. The first Hunger Games

We know that the first Hunger Games book and film take place during the 74th Hunger Games, but it would be very interesting to go way back before the first Hunger Games had ever taken place. How cool would it be to see how the rebellion started, and then how it ended with the destruction of District 13 and implementation of the Hunger Games. Though the books and films do have some elderly characters, it doesn't really seem like any of the characters were old enough to have lived in a time (or remember living in a time) before the Capitol ruled everything and once a year the 12 districts needed to sacrifice a son and daughter. Personally I think this would be a very cool film, or series of films to see.

3. Finnick Odair's backstory

Finnick was the good looking victor of the 65th Hunger Games, and returned for the third Quarter Quell. Finnick fast became a fan favorite with his good looks and cheeky sense of humor, but it wasn't until later on that we learned the dark secrets hiding behind all of that - Finnick was made to sell his body to citizens of the Capitol, and in return learned many horrible and revealing secrets about the Capitol's richest. Seeing Finnick win his Hunger Games and then all his grim dealings with the Capitol before meeting and falling in love with Annie would be a great film to watch.

4. Another sequel

Or most obviously, perhaps the next film that should be made should be a fifth Hunger Games film taking place some time after the events of Mockingjay - Part 2, perhaps a few years later when the characters are considerably older, or even based on the prologue section of Mockingjay the book?

What do you think any new Hunger Games films should be about? Tell me HERE!
