It has been long rumored that Domhnall Gleeson will actually portray the son of Luke Skywalker in this year’s most anticipated movie. A scoop from Making of Star Wars confirms this and adds a little twist – in fact, this character will also be an Imperial Commander who pursues Finn (John Boyega) and gives intel to the bad guys. But this isn’t all – he is actually playing on both sides, with the intention of disarming the Galaxy and putting a stop to the war: “The implications of Gleeson’s actions are supposedly huge in the film. He began this mission before his father went missing. When he succeeds in ending the Intergalactic Cold War by stopping the weapons of galaxy wide destruction he doesn’t anticipate the immediate consequences. The cost? He opens up a new front and the war turns hot as there is nothing to keep the peace with mutually assured destruction no longer on the table. The real war then begins and the fight for the control of planets and territory begins, causing a conflict the storytellers hope will lead to countless Star Wars tales for years to come.”
Still, this is just a scoop and should be taken with a pinch of salt – nonetheless, it falls perfectly in place with what Mark Hamill said about this episode – that it will be centered on the offsprings and not the parents.
