The premise might be simple - but the execution and conclusion might result in a sudden surge of complex emotions.
Le Gouffre (in English, The Chasm) is a beautiful and heart-rendering animated short developed by Montreal-based animators Carl Beauchemin, Thomas Chrétien, and David Forest. The story, which is delivered entirely without meaningful dialogue, sees two adventurous friends attempting to cross an almost impassable chasm. Despite the challenge and with determination, ingenuity and teamwork, they start to build a bridge to cross the uncrossable. Unfortunately, not everything goes smoothly.
The project was successfully funded through contributions to a Kickstarter campaign. If I had donated money, I would certainly be pretty happy with what it went towards. Check out Le Gouffre below:
But that's not all, the guys also posted up a short behind-the-scenes video showing off the development of the short. All told, the team of three would put two years into producing their first animated short film.
If you liked what you saw and you want to support the talented trio further, make sure to head over to their support page and send them some love or some cold hard cash.
