Many Hollywood child stars moulded our childhood experiences, giving us individuals to relate to and look up to as our on-screen role-models. Whilst we watched many boys and girls grow up in front of our eyes in iconic roles, others abandoned the profession, fell off the radar and were largely forgotten over the years.
I revisit eight child actors who are all grown up and now look nothing like we remember them by. Be prepared to be shocked by what you see!
1. Macaulay Culkin
We all knew Macaulay Culkin from the wildly successful slapstick comedy Home Alone, which sky-rocketed him to a meteoric rise to fame. In recent years, alongside his very obvious penchant for illegal substance abuse, he's been looking worse for wear lending his vocals and kazoo to "The Pizza Underground," a band dedicated to pizza-themed music...
Journey back 25 years to his outstanding performance in Home Alone:
2. Danny Tamberelli
Danny Tamberelli's Little Pete from Nickelodeon's The Adventures of Pete & Pete was one half of a red-head brotherly duo in the quirky show. Since his years in the entertainment industry, Tamberelli now sings in a band called 'Jounce' and performs in a comedy sketch group 'ManBoobs.' Evidently, he has also become much 'rounder' as the years went by.
3. Austin St. John
Back in the '90s, Austin St. John was cast as the Red Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Apparently, he left the series due to contractual disagreements, returning as the Gold Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo and then in a minor role in the second Power Ranger's movie. Today, he has left the acting profession all together and works as a paramedic in Washington DC.
4. Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan became a child superstar playing identical twins in the blockbuster The Parent Trap. Revisit her cute freckled face in the trailer:
Since starring in a myriad of highly-entertaining movies such as Mean Girls and Freaky Friday, the notorious party-girl had many run-ins with the law and became no stranger to courtroom appearances. For a break-down of her bad girl ways, take a look at this and a collection of her mug-shots below:
5. Danny Bonaduce
Back in the '70s, Danny Bonaduce became famous as a child actor in the sitcom The Partridge Family as the snarky, red-headed son of the singing pop band, headed by Shirley Jones. Since his childhood days, he has been an American radio host for WYSP in Philadelphia, a comedian and professional wrestler. Today, it seems that his red locks are the only feature that link him back to his debut role.
6. Lark Voorhies
Lark Voorhies played the role of Lisa Turtle in Saved By The Bell. Since growing up, she has mostly made headlines for allegations that she is mentally unstable and has a drug problem. As well as attracting attention to her surgically manipulated face, most recently, she attempted to set the record straight, denying rumors that she is suffering from bipolar disorder and going through a crisis. Appearing on Entertainment Tonight to discuss the issue, she rambled:
"It is a small, uh, opinionata that is getting blown thoroughly out of proportion. I have no stating reasons why anyone should worry about me. I mean, clearly I am a very strong, top-of-the-line, always-rising-to-it personage. And um, I have no worries myself, nor do I exude, exhibit or posses within my living strata...stratus any reason why someone should worry in my behalf. It's just lies. It's completely fictional."
Honestly, she just seems like a shadow of her old self. I am also very confused about the transformation her face has gone through... why the white circles around the eyes?
7. Frankie Muniz
We all know Frankie Muniz as Malcolm in Malcolm In The Middle, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award and two Golden Globes. Back in 2003, he was considered to be "one of Hollywood's most bankable teens" but in 2008, he decided to pursue a car racing career instead. Most recently, he joined the band 'Kingsfoil' as a drummer but reportedly left last year.
Over the years, he's definitely lost his cute appeal, that's for sure.
8. Haley Joel Osment
Haley Joel Osment was the break-out wonder child of Hollywood, starring in blockbusters such as Forrest Gump, The Sixth Sense and A.I. Since mysteriously whispering that he could "see dead people" to a concerned Bruce Willis, he has grown up and has participated in a wide-ranging array of projects, playing all sorts of characters, from Nazis to heroin addicts.
Considering his current appearance, he is almost unrecognizable but thankfully, his acting talent ensures he remains memorable and it definitely stretches beyond his rotund physique and rugged facial hair.
What do you guys think? Do these stars look better or worse now?
