S.H.I.E.L.D. is on the horizon! It's coming!
They'll be Bach!
Who ya gonna call when ya got an Inhuman in your closet?

Uh. Pardon the excitement.

Sorry.

...

I really can pull it all together...

THEY'RE COMING!!!

Oh.

Sorry.

I was just tooling around over on the IMdB page for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season #2 / Episode #11 (the one that will show on Tuesday, March 3) and they've listed some of the upcoming cast.

I went there... I certainly did...
I went there... I certainly did...

Yeah, I used IMDb. And, I understand that, often, IMDb is fed erroneous information by the studios / producers to keep the fans confused and curious as to what is really going on.

But, it's still fun to look into from time-to-time.

The Cast

Melinda May (aka "The Cavalry")
Melinda May (aka "The Cavalry")

There's Ming-Na Wen (Agent Melinda May) as the only one credited as cast. She's become Skye's S.O. since Grant Ward has gone off the grid.

There's "Rest of cast listed alphabetically:"

(I'm not listing them alphabetically)

Clark Gregg as "Phil Coulson"

That's DIRECTOR Coulson, now...
That's DIRECTOR Coulson, now...

Phil no longer has to worry about his obsession with that "map" that was driving him before the end of the first half of the season. Now, he gets to worry about why the Skye is falling...

sorry

Chloe Bennet as "Skye"

Ladies & Gentlemen... the Inhuman known as Skye!
Ladies & Gentlemen... the Inhuman known as Skye!

Yup, not Daisy... not Skye/Daisy... not Skye/Daisy/Quake... Just Skye. And, she's listed as Skye all the way through Episode #22 (season finale).

And, it may be that they haven't updated very far forward on IMDb and they're just copying the core cast through the end of the season then they'll update as they get to that episode.

Iain De Caestecker as "Leo Fitz"

Mechanical Sciences genius
Mechanical Sciences genius

Fitz is still having troubles with his mental faculties. I wish they had a dose of GH-325 hanging around so they could clear all that up... it's really frustrating for the fans who have grown to really like the guy.

Elizabeth Henstridge as "Jemma Simmons"

Master of the Biological Sciences
Master of the Biological Sciences

She knows Fitz is in love with her... and, she loves him, too - very much so - just... not that way. She would give her life for him, if necessary... the way any friend would.

(Both Fitz & Simmons are listed through the end of Season 2)

Adrianne Palicki as "Bobbi Morse" (Mockingbird)

Secret Agents live the life of Danger...
Secret Agents live the life of Danger...

Interesting to note that Bobbi Morse disappears from the cast listing after Episode 11: Aftershocks. She's probably preparing for the Civil War; although, I doubt Mockingbird would yet be aware of that. Trouble is, she's not listed in the credits for the movie.

But, I'll be she's on Iron Man's side!

Missing in Action!

Some culling of the clutter... ?
Some culling of the clutter... ?

So... that's the regulars. No Mac (who would still be recovering from being taken over in that underground city). No Hunter. No Grant Ward and no Agent 33.

Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) doesn't make the listings after the mid-season finale. It seems like they may just be done with him. Ditto Mac Mackenzie (Henry Simmons). If Mac doesn't come back, that would be a disappointment. His chemistry with Fitz makes for good viewing. Hunter? Not so much. He seems to be kind of wimpish for an international agent of espionage and intrigue.

But, it's nice to know that Marvel isn't afraid to do some culling where they don't seem to be getting the impact they desired. It looks like they're going to be trimmed down nicely prior to bringing in the new regulars.

A Couple of "Guest Agents"

I-i-i... don't think they're related...
I-i-i... don't think they're related...

Christina Ford as "Agent Rambeau"

Rambo? Really? That's so Cool! I hope she has some serious guns! She looks good. Young. Fit. But, she's only listed in Episode 11: Aftershocks.

David A. Jansen as the Fugitive...

No. Wait. That was David Janssen. This guy's gonna be "Shield Agent". They'll probably give him a red tunic. He's only in Episode #11, so don't look for him to "Trip" his way into a continuing gig.

A Couple of "Guest Characters"

Scientist, huh... and nuns? Sheikh?
Scientist, huh... and nuns? Sheikh?

McKay Stewart as "Scientist #1"

I guess that means there'll be a "Scientist #2" and... more?

Maz Siam as "The Sheikh"

Get us some of that Middle Eastern input.

(Neither of these guys continues past this episode)

Then, there's some interesting folks

Olmos as Gonzales and Underwood as Garner
Olmos as Gonzales and Underwood as Garner

Edward James Olmos as "Robert Gonzales"

Olmos was touted in a couple of articles a week or so ago so should have a significant role. Not sure what it'll be, though.

I do see that he is listed as a regular, now, through the season finale, so he will likely be a part of the team. Maybe he's a Coulson recruit? Maybe he's a seasoned Inhuman?

Stay Tuned, boyz and grrrls!

His credits include the just completed "Untitled Jim Loach Project", two post-production movies (El Americano: The Movie (animated) & Mondy Nights at Seven) and a pre-production effort, The Art of Living.

He also was Axford in the Green Hornet movie and this one is really cool: Admiral William Adama on the Battlestar Galactica TV series and movies. He's been acting since 1974 and has been in some fairly beefy enterprises.

Blair Underwood as "Andrew Garner"

For those of you who watched Clark Gregg's old show, The New Adventures of Old Christine, you'll recognize Blair as the guy Old Christine dated for a while.

I'm not sure who his character will be, but he's 50ish, handsome and very fit. Maybe he's some sort of hero or hero-to-be. Maybe he arrives with Lincoln when he comes to help Skye come to grips with her new powers.

Maybe he hangs with Reader as they seek out and capture? "unregistered" or newly created Inhumans.

At any rate, Andrew is listed for Episodes 11 thru 15 (maybe further, but only those are listed so far). And, #15 appears to be the last episode we'll see Reader. My guess is he's working, in some capacity, with Reader. Maybe he's the corporate liaison who's responsible for seeing that Reader does his job.

Then, it gets really, really, really, really, really...
(you get the point) ...interesting. INHUMANS!

Well... not *those* Inhumans...
Well... not *those* Inhumans...
Bad guy / good guy? Good guy / good guy?
Bad guy / good guy? Good guy / good guy?

Jamie Harris as the Inhuman, "Reader"

There's a theory Reader works for a mega-corporation that is seeking power and they want to get their hands on "powered" people to further their plans. And, he is in opposition to the Royal Family (Blackbolt, et al). Maybe not. That's for the plot to play out.

He is listed in Episode #11, misses #12, is back for #13 then misses #14 and he's back for #15 & #16. My guess is there's going to be some short of showdown with S.H.I.E.L.D. and he gets punted.

Luke Mitchell as the Inhuman, "Lincoln"

And, he's a regular through the end of the season. Get used to him 'cuz he's gonna be around a spell. His job, according to the press releases, is to help Skye become acclimated to her new powers - a very important role.

So, to do that, he will have to make friends with Coulson and S.H.I.E.L.D. - probably even becoming a part of the team. We have no idea what his Inhuman skills and talents might be, but he is an Inhuman and he will be guiding Skye.

It's his character that, more than anything, leads me to believe that Reader is going to be the villain over the next few weeks.

☻ And, ♪♫ TA-t-t-TAAA! ♫♪ ☻

Hmmm... didn't see *that* one coming...
Hmmm... didn't see *that* one coming...

Ruth Negga as "Tigra" (Raina)!

There she is, Ladies and Gentlemen! The one and only furry feline super heroine!

Tigra!

It will be fascinating to see how they make her up. Will she be in a bikini like in the comics? That would be weird, but it wouldn't be unprecedented - Mystique is nude in the X-Verse. Just her natural, blue beauty.

And... then... shegoesaway.

Tigra/Raina isn't listed after Episode 11: Aftershocks. She is likely bound for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will no longer soil herself with the mundanity of television. <Sniff!>

Some Housekeeping

Tidying up just a bit...
Tidying up just a bit...

There are a number of single-episoders listed through the end of the season. And, None of them look to be more than...

Organizational Fodder:

Andrew, Kennedy, Sarabia, Smith, Lynette & Telio
Andrew, Kennedy, Sarabia, Smith, Lynette & Telio
  • Markell Andrew as "Officer Carvalho"
  • Jack Kennedy as "Security Guard"
  • Rick Sarabia as "Carleton Levi"
  • Cornelius Smith, Jr. as "Case"
  • Tosha Lynette as "Traveler"
  • Murielle Telio as "Young Starlet"

She and "Traveler" may be targets of Reader so S.H.I.E.L.D. would have to intercede to save them? Maybe they're Inhumans and just don't know it, yet.
(I had initially considered "Traveler" as a name thinking she was another Inhuman... then, I figured that probably wouldn't be the case.)

The beard really makes a difference!
The beard really makes a difference!
  • And, Rick Otto as "Lead Hydra Agent"

So, it appears Hydra will still be around, but it looks like the main focus for the remainder of the season will be the Inhumans and their introduction. He doesn't appear, though, until Reader's last episode (#15). Not sure what the tie-in might be.

Some Plot musings...

Slithering around... somewhere...
Slithering around... somewhere...

I don't know what anyone else thinks, but I don't think that Daniel Whitehall (Reed Diamond) is dead. He doesn't appear in the listings for any more episodes this season, but that doesn't mean he won't be back in the future.

He went down way too easily for a character of his magnitude. And, if he's dead, a Marvel super villain, Kraken, will have to be retooled to another person - if they plan to use him in the future.

Reed is currently appearing as Harold Balinger in the TV series Wayward Pines and as Jules in the TV series State of Affairs.

Billy? Sam? Eric? ... How many??
Billy? Sam? Eric? ... How many??

And, Patton Oswalt appears to be done. The Koenig multiplicity of characters also doesn't appear after the mid-season finale. I'm betting he's still floating around the MCU, somewhere, though.

Yeah... he gets pretty ugly, sometimes...
Yeah... he gets pretty ugly, sometimes...

Kyle McLaughlin's Dr. Calvin Zabo / Mr. Hyde also appears to be done. No note of him in the second half of the season. Plus, Kyle's just been re-signed onto the new Twin Peaks TV series in his old role (Special Agent Dale Cooper). He's also the Mayor in the TV series, Portlandia, so he's a really busy man.

And, he's the voice of the dad in Disney's Inside Out due to be released later this year.

Keep an eye out for these guys...
Keep an eye out for these guys...

Still no mention of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

Still no mention of J. August Richards' Deathlok / Mike Peterson or his son, Ace (Ajani Wrighster) through the end of the season. I can't believe they're completely done with them, though.

Bet he's a Captain America guy in the Civil War!

Nothing about Hawkeye / Jeremy Renner making an appearance.

Villainous, dastardly, scary...
Villainous, dastardly, scary...

No further mention of Ian Quinn (David Conrad).

No further mention of Brigadier General Glenn Talbot (Adrian Pasdar)

No further mention of Donnie Gill / Blizzard (Dylan Minnette)

Seems more of a Cap guy to me. Likes his freedom to move about and do as he pleases.

Some of our old favorites...
Some of our old favorites...

I guess Victoria Hand (Saffron Burrows) really is dead. Too bad. I'd almost grown to like her character. She's playing Cynthia in the TV series, Mozart in the Jungle, now.

No cameos by Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders); although, she is listed in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Guess she's too important to deign to appear on a piddling little old television show, any more.

B.J. Britt appears to have landed on his feet. Since his Trip character died on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., he's now appearing as Paul Patterson, Jr. in the TV series Being Mary Jane.

Some call him Oatu - The Watcher
Some call him Oatu - The Watcher

And, Stan Lee hasn't yet made his appearance this season. How are we going to get all this tied into the MCU without him... ?

Aesgaard returns to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.!

To Midgard! And, beyond! No. Wait...
To Midgard! And, beyond! No. Wait...

I had forgotten this. Lady Sif is returning to Midgard and will encounter our awesome team. She's in a bit of a pickle, though, as she's completely lost her short term memory, her armor and her sword. Coulson and his team will have to help her recover all of them. Not sure what episode that will be, but it is definitely something to which we can look forward!

Information? Misinformation? Your call...

Yeah, I used IMDb. And, yeah, some of the later episodes haven't yet had their guest stars established because the writers, generally, are only 5 or 6 episodes ahead of the current episode so more will almost certainly be brought on as the season progresses.

And, yeah... Raina may or may not be Tigra. But, I'm excited that she might! We'll find out for sure on March 3!
