So much to my dismay, it's official, Garfield is out. While this is a tough blow to those of us who loved his portrayal of the webslinger, this Marvel-Sony reboot is also an opportunity to recast one of the best comic book to movie characters in history.

Yesterday Variety and The Hollywood Reporter announced that the Marvel-Sony reboot will be looking for someone younger than Garfield to play the role, but will be skipping the origin story - which I think we all agree is okay - and jumping straight into Peter's storyline.

That being said, nothing it set in stone until the studios speak. Since the role is still technically up for grabs, let's hear what you guys think with another Moviepilot fan casting!

Dylan O'Brien

It seems like [The Maze Runner](movie:575895) and [Teen Wolf](series:721002) actor is the frontrunner as far as fan castings go. O'Brien is funny, witty, and he certainly looks the part. Not to mention, he was surprisingly good in an action role like Maze Runner, so his battle scenes could be pretty awesome. If the studio decides to go with a younger Peter Parker, then he might be the right guy for the job.

Do you agree?

Logan Lerman

Like O'Brien, Lerman seems to be the other apple of Sony/Marvel's eyes. Lerman certainly fits into the "younger than Garfield" category at the age of 23 and with the face of a 17-year old. He also has a fairly wide range of acting working on films like the Percy Jackson franchise, [The Perks of Being a Wallflower](movie:45866), and [Fury](movie:866294). Together, these three movies give him the experience of playing a superhuman, a quirky outcast, and a coming of age solider, respectively. I think Lerman could play the part rather well.

Do you agree?

Donald Glover

Sony and Marvel have pretty much stated that they're only looking at doing the Peter Parker storyline, but, like I said, nothing is confirmed until the studios speak. And even then, things can change! In the off chance they decide to take a route other than Peter Parker, then Donald Glover is the top choice to play Miles Morales from the Ultimate storyline. As a former 30 Rock writer, a [Community](series:714858) cast member, and a talented, Grammy-nominated rapper, Glover is clearly a funny, yet brilliant guy.

Do you agree?

Ansel Elgort

That Ansel is so hot right now. As one of those young, hot actors that Hollywood and his fans can't seem to get enough of, it doesn't seem ridiculous that the 20-year-old actor could play a young Peter Parker. We know from his role in the [Divergent](movie:593270) franchise that he can do action, but from other works like [Men, Women And Children](movie:1103142), and [The Fault In Our Stars](movie:602185) that he can play a sweet, innocent high schooler. Throw in a love of justice and we've got a decent look at Peter Parker.

Poll

Do you agree?

Dave Franco

This is a new one I hadn't heard yet, but I'm really starting to like the idea. Of all these actors, I'd say that Franco probably has the best build and general character for the role. With Garfield in the role we sort of overlooked the fact that Peter Parker is supposed to be on the shorter side, which Franco has covered. And as we know from his numerous roles (21 Jump Street, Now You See Me) playing the funny, witty guy, that he could play the quippy, sarcastic Spider-Man fairly well.

Taron Egerton

Egerton is a relatively new actor on the scene, but following his success in the new movie [Kingsman: The Secret Service](movie:713143), there is a lot of talk that he could play Spider-Man. The reason it was suggested in the first place was because Mark Millar, the man who wrote the Civil War comic, said that his choice to play Spidey would be Egerton, which is pretty hard to argue with.

Poll

Do you agree?

Tobey Maguire

While I don't personally see this happening, especially considering they're talking about a high school-age Peter, there is definitely a small but vocal group that believes Tobey Maguire should come back to play Spidey. Their arguments are also pretty compelling. Sure, Maguire is a bit older, but he is the cinematic Spider-Man that most of us grew up watching and that could fit the Civil War storyline quite well. Although a lot of people agree that Garfield's Spider-Man was better, it's hard to deny that Maguire had the Peter Parker persona down pat.

Poll

Do you agree?

Andrew Garfield

Yes, I know that this isn't happening, but I would be remiss if there wasn't an option where fans of Garfield could express their sadness over this loss. This poll is the place to do it. Or a place. I mean, it's just a poll.

Or who knows? Maybe they'll decide to go with someone completely new and unexpected! No matter who the studios decide to choose, I'm sure it'll be great. I'm just excited to see Spider-Man back in Marvel's hands.

Who of these actors is your favorite choice for the role? Or is there someone else you'd like to see don the Spidey suit? Let me know in the comments section!
