Men In Black is fantastic and the fact that is spawned a further two sequels is testament to that. Not only did it bring aliens back in a BIG way in 1997, but its dark humor, slick special effects and witty script meant that is was one of the most entertaining action movie series in recent decades.
Relive the alien infested trailer below:
Combined with charismatic performances by a fantastic array of Hollywood stars, and the unlikely partnership between Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, the movie is an absolute riot to watch.
But since the whirlwind success following its release, what have the actors been up to?
Let's revisit some of our most beloved characters and see where they're at today:
1. Tommy Lee Jones
Role: Agent Kay, a high-standing member of the organization who trains Agent J into becoming his new partner.
Where are they now? Tommy Lee Jones was already a bona fide star by the time he took on the script for Men In Black. Since the first movie, he has continued to spread his talent across a myriad of different projects. Notably, he starred in the Oscar-winning No Country for Old Men, recession drama The Company Men, and mafia comedy The Family, alongside Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer. For his role in political epic Lincoln, Jones received his fourth Oscar nomination.
2. Will Smith
Role: Agent Jay, a cop recruited to join the secret organization tracking alien activity on Earth.
Where are they now? When it comes to Hollywood royalty, Will Smith is definitely King. When he was cast in Men In Black, Will was already riding high on the successes of Bad Boys and Independence Day. Since the sci-fi flick, he has appeared in blockbusters such as the Wild Wild West, I Am Legend, I, Robot and After Earth, alongside his son Jayden.
He has received Best Actor Oscar nominations for Ali and The Pursuit of Happyness.
This year, expect to see him in crime drama Focus and Concussion, a movie exploring the effects of sport injuries.
3. Linda Fiorentino
Role: Laurel Weaver is a medical examiner who always has her memory wiped.
Where are they now? Linda Fiorentino was very much a sex symbol by the time she began working on Men In Black. Following the release, she also starred in Dogma, Where The Money Is and in sniper thriller Liberty Stands Still.
Having taken a break from acting back in 2002, she appeared in Once More With Feeling again in 2009. Since then, she has fallen off the radar and not appeared in any notable movies.
4. Vincent D'Onofrio
Role: Edgar The Bug came to earth, killed a farmer and then wore his skin as a disguise while planning to steal a tiny galaxy.
Where are they now? Vincent D'Onofrio is an incredibly accomplished actor who has starred in a long list of notable titles - he has been referred to as "The Human Chameleon" for his ability to adapt to multiple highly diverse roles. Since assuming his grotesque identity in Men In Black, he is has been most known for his role as Detective Robert Goren in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. He also starred in The Break-Up with Jennifer Aniston, The Cell alongside JLo, and more recently in movies such as Escape Plan, The Judge, and Mall.
Catch him next in Jurassic World and TV series Daredevil.
5. Rip Torn
Role: Agent Zed, the head of the organization.
Where are they now? Following the wild success of Men In Black, Rip Torn went on to star in Dodgeball and Marie Antoinette. He was also praised for his recurring role in 30 Rock. Most recently, you can catch him in Bridge of Names.
For all you gamers out there, you will recognize Torn's voice in the God of War III video game.
6. Tony Shalhoub
Role: Jack Jeebs, the alien who pretended to be a pawn shop owner but who was actually an alien weapons vendor.
Where are they now? Since the filming for the alien adventure wrapped up, Tony Shalhoub went on to star in Galaxy Quest and Thirteen Ghosts, before landing the role of Detective Adrian Monk in TV series Monk. The show was very successful and ran from 2002 to 2009. He can also be spotted in movies such as Spy Kids, Pain & Gain and lends his voice to the Cars animations.
I have probably seen Men In Black too many times to count but the action-packed sci-fi flick is still as satisfying as ever.
It's just as good every time! Who knows, maybe I have been zapped with a neuralizer?
Which actor surprised you the most?
