This year, competition is incredibly stiff for the Best Animated Film Oscar. With the Big Hero 6, Song of the Sea, The Boxtrolls and the Tale of the Princess Kaguya in the running against How to Train Your Dragon 2, it's very hard to tell who will take home the big gong on the night.

Yet, now it seems that the dragon fantasy is slowly overtaking the other contenders, with its new documentary on the making of the film marking it out as the frontrunner.

Before I introduce you to the new feature, remind yourself of the action-packed adventure in the movie's trailer:

Called Where No One Goes: The Making of How To Train Your Dragon 2, the new one-hour long documentary gives us a fascinating insight into how our favorite characters and awesome scenarios were constructed.

Take a peek at how it all comes together in this video here.

From the early development process, to the visual effects, this is very eye-opening!

For those of you who cannot sit still for a full 60-minutes, here are some snapshots from the documentary to give you an idea of how awesome it is:

Random photographs were collected to provide inspiration for the landscapes

Gerard Butler (and other voice actors) speak about the character development process

The original prints of locations such as The Stables are shown

The designers show how the characters evolved

We learn about how the visual effects are created

The animators' attention to detail is really incredible!

Watch the documentary for yourselves and let me know what you think!
