As most, if not all, of you have heard SPIDER-MAN IS BACK! Oh what great news! So great, great news. It's so exciting. For years and years, Marvel has been trying to get Spider-Man back and now he is. He will officially be one of the Avengers.
So my question now is, how big is the Marvel cinematic universe about to get? My answer? It's about to get pretty darn huge!
Enter Spidey and Crew
I'm not going to even start my rant about Andrew Garfield being thrown out of the Spider-man role. I'll move on to less depressing things like the very excited news of Spider-Man joining the Avengers!
Not only will we have our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man back in the swing (literally) of things, but we already know he'll bring a full party of new characters to the MCU movies. We're going to have villains galore, sexy super-heroines aplenty, and maybe even cameos from the X-men.
Imagine some of the villains he'll bring: Alistair Smythe, Beetle, Big Man, Big Wheel, Black Tarantula, Boomerang, Burglar, Cardiac, Calypso, Carnage, Carrion, Chameleon, Crime Master, Demogoblin, Doppelganger, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Gog, Goblin Knight, Green Goblin, Grey Goblin, The Grizzly, Hammerhead, Hobgoblin, the Human Fly, Hydro-Man, Jackal, Jack O'Lantern, Kaine, Kangaroo, Kingpin, Kraven the Hunter, the Living Brain, Lizard, Looter, Man Mountain Marko, Man-Wolf, Mister Fear, Mister Negative, Molten Man, and the list goes on. Get my point?
And then we get to all the super-heroes and super-heroines that he'll bring like Black Cat, Ms. Marvel, Chat, Emma Frost, Silver Sable, Jean Grey, Rogue, Wolverine, and numerous other characters from both the X-men and Fantastic Four side.
So basically yeah that's a lot of characters right there. They're already doing the Civil War movie next year, but imagine what would happen if they needed a ton of characters for the Avengers: Infinity War later on? Oh...they have a ton of characters now.
The Fantastic Four
I bet you that now that Marvel has Spider-Man in it's grasp, they're going to start working for Fantastic Four and X-men. Once they have complete control over Spider-Man, then they'll really work hard for one or both of Fox's superhero groups. Why?
Think of what Marvel could do with the entire rights to all their characters! They would be unstoppable. They would have the opportunity to make the most massive, lucrative superhero cinematic universe of any film studio in the history of film.
They wouldn't have to change comic storylines to compensate for not owning rights. They wouldn't have to change character titles. They could make any movie they wanted, and do anything they wanted with the character. Already, if you go to comic-con, you'll realize they have an army of fans. They've made billions with the MCU movies already. They could realistically be one of the most powerful film industries that Disney owns.
So where are they on that? Good question. Maybe I can shed some light on that.
You may not have realized that there were two Fantastic Four movies back in 2005 and 2007. Although they made some money, they didn't do amazingly well. It kind of reminds me of the original three Spider-man movies with Tobey Maguire.
Then came along The Amazing-Spiderman with Andrew Garfield. I thought the movies were spectacular. However, money-wise they didn't so great. Why? A lot of people thought it was just too soon to reboot the Spider-Man franchise. Others thought that Sony made poor choices for the story-lines for the movies.
Anyways, I like to think of the Fantastic Four movie (coming out in 2015) as the The Amazing-Spiderman of the Fantastic Four Franchise. I have a feeling it will do fairly well, thus putting Fox's hope in the franchise. I also have a bad feeling they'll make bad story-line choices later down the road, and that's when Marvel will jump and try to snatch up Fantastic Four just like they did with Spider-Man. Could it really happen? I think it will happen.
These guys are going to be a little harder for Marvel to get. In fact, I'll bet on the idea that it's not going to happen for a very long time. Why?
Fox is a lot stronger company than Sony...I think. I could be wrong. And the X-men Franchise is on a role. Everyone loved X-men: Days of Future Past. X-Men: Age of Apocalypse is one of the most anticipated movies coming out in the next few years. And there's no reason to think that it won't stay this way for a long while.
Could they make a blunder? Yes, they could very well make a big misstep somewhere along the road, but then again so could Marvel and then it definitely wouldn't happen for a long while. I wouldn't expect to see the X-men for a long time. Maybe we'll see them after Avengers: Infinity War, but most likely not before that. However, there are always miracles.
