Guillermo del Toro has always had a knack for monsters, the supernatural, fantasy and scaring audiences with unique and bizzare characters (I am sure that no one can ever forget the Pale Man!).
His latest motion picture - Crimson Peak promises more of the same. It is described as "a supernatural fantasy mystery horror thriller" and it has a formidable cast that includes: Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, and Charlie Hunnam. The movie is scheduled to be released on October 16, 2015 and it is produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Universal Pictures.
Let's focus on what we already now about the plot. The story will be set in Cumbria (I cannot believe it, this is in the same region as my university - Lancaster and it is extremely close to where I live currently!), in a crumbling mansion in a rural and mountainous region of west-northern England in the 19th century.
The plot will revolve around young author Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) , who discovers that her courteous new husband Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston) is not who he appears to be after his sister (Jessica Chastain) reveals to her that the siblings were raised in the attic of an expansive mansion.
Edith is faced with some difficult choices, while trying to escape the ghosts of her past in a house (mansion) that "breathes, bleeds...and remembers".
The ghost story appears to be much more reminiscent of del Toro's early works than Pacific Rim, for example. He wrote the story with Matthew Robbins and Lucinda Coxon and the film is "Rated R".
