Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland) takes the helm for Focus Features’ ultra-tense submarine thriller Black Sea. Part heist film, part white-knuckle thrill ride, Kevin’s film is as engaging as it is claustrophobic. We got to sit with Macdonald to talk about the story and his experiences shooting the film.

Now one thing to note, before every interview there’s always a little down time during the tech check. So I decided to drop an impromptu Russian accent on the unsuspecting director when the camera crew were adjusting the curtains behind him. Not sure it will help me obtain a part in Black Sea 2, but it sure got a good laugh. Enjoy!

The film is directed by Kevin Macdonald and stars Jude Law, Scoot McNairy, and Ben Mendelsohn. Focus Features’ Black Sea had its US release on January 23rd.

BLACK SEA tells the story of a submarine captain who takes a job with a shadowy backer to search the depths of the Black Sea for a submarine rumored to be loaded with gold.
