As you probably heard, unless you have been living under a rock for the past two weeks, J.J. Abrams wants to give Star Wars Episode 7 a summer release date. I believe that overall this is a good idea, but I can see reasons why Disney would reject this idea. So here are the pros and cons of The Force Awakens early release date.

Star Wars Episode 7 is probably the most anticipated movie of 2015. With this being the case, people will want to see it as soon as possible. If Star Wars is released in the summertime, it will be part of the huge group of summer blockbusters being released in 2015. Summer is when a lot of people go to see the movies. Star Wars would most likely kill at the box office if it was released in the summer when more people go to see movies. A possible problem with the summer release is the other big summer blockbusters of this year. Fantastic Four, Jurassic World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Ant Man are all do to be released this summer. Star Wars will have a lot of major competition at the box office. Personally if i had to choose between Star Wars 7 and Avengers 2, I would go see Star Wars. The second Avengers movie will be good but it just can't beat Star Wars at the box office.

Another major benefit of a Star Wars summer release date is better for Disney than anyone else. Disney already has two major blockbusters coming out this summer, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant Man. With those two films( namely Age of Ulrton) racking in a lot of money, Disney would be well set at the box office. Now with that in mind, imagine if they had the most anticipated movie of the year, Star Wars 7, coming out at the time when it would most thrive at the box office with two big MCU movie thriving as well. Disney would make millions, maybe even billions, of dollars this summer. Disney would probably be able to take over the movie industry.

The main reason for an early release date for Star Wars is the leaks. Star Wars 7 is scheduled to release on December 18th. This leaves fans a whole year between now and when they get to see the new movie. Already, a year before the movie is even released, and only about 2 months after the 88 second teaser trailer was released there have been a ton of spoilers and pretty much the whole plot has been revealed. J.J. Abrams was prompted by this to ask for a summer release date. Abrams doesn't want the whole movie to be completely spoiled and, considering how much has been revealed already and the size of the leaks, in a year people when the film is released, nobody will need to see it and those who do will probably be bored by it because they will know everything about it already.

Let me know what you think about an early release in the comments below and may the force be with you.
