Last Thursday, February 12, I had the opportunity to attend a very special event from Birdman to celebrate the Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy release. And it was full of surprises, like the appearance of Michael Keaton!
I was out of town the week before and couldn't attended another Birdman event - a Q&A with director Alejandro González Iñárritu, and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki - so when I received an email from Marco over at Moviepilot inviting me to a special screening with Antonio Sanchez, who provided the score, performing live with the screening - I didn't hesitated to accept the invitation!
The event was held at the ACE Hotel in Downtown L.A. I really enjoyed the hour and a half bus tour... well actually, I didn't, but it was totally worth it.
Before the screening the 20th Century Fox Team invited us to a cocktail hour full of backstage photographs, retro-look posters from the film and an exclusive work of art created by Kelsey Montague.
Kelsey Montague's Birdman wings are inspired by the film and customized to fit the storyline to celebrate the Blu-ray/DVD release.
Each piece of Kelsey's art provides an opportunity for people to step into the work and become a living work of art.
One thing I like from this event is that they treat you like a real rockstar!
After the cocktail the staff took us to the theater next door where Antonio Sanchez's drums were ready to be played.
The biggest surprise of the night was the appearance of Michael Keaton, who showed up to introduce Antonio and speak about the film.
Michael Keaton confessed that he thought Alejandro González Iñarritu was crazy when he told him that he wanted to mostly just use drums for the whole film score and that when he saw the film for the first time he thought Antonio's work was absolutely amazing.
Antonio Sánchez played live during the film projection!
When the movie was done, we got back to the cocktail event, where we had the chance to see more posters and art work from the film.
Personally, I didn't know what Kelsey looked like, so it wasn't until I was having a casual conversation with her that I had I discovered who she was. So naturally, I decided to take a picture with her and her work of art.
I already have my copy of Birdman which is now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy! Get yours today!
