The AMC show [Breaking Bad](series:200567) spawned a successful spinoff in [Better Call Saul](series:1028213) (awesome show, by the way) and now it appears AMC's other smash hit, [The Walking Dead](series:201193), and its producers are trying to follow suit, with [The Walking Dead Spinoff](series:1117438). However, there is a little bit of disconcerting news coming from the show, which is going to be set in California and will feature an entirely fresh cast.

Apparently, according to executive producer Gale Ann Hurd, the show finished shooting its pilot on Friday but hasn't yet been picked up to series. Meaning, we really don't know whether it's going to come out any time soon. I'm a little bit worried that maybe pessimistic executives are the reason it hasn't been picked up yet. To me, it seems like a no brainer and that AMC would jump all over that!

This is a "companion series", meaning it will be similar to The Walking Dead, but will take place in California and have no impact whatsoever on the original show's plot. It will be done by the same people, though, and I would imagine it will be good. This news isn't overly troubling to me, since I think it's probably too early to tell if it will get picked up or not - and I mean, how could it not get picked up?

Like, who DOESN'T want more of this?

One key difference about the spinoff in comparison to the original show is that it takes place during the outbreak - so, we will find out the origin of the apocalypse and we'll be thrown right into the action when folks start getting zombified.

Imagine a [World War Z](movie:12855) type situation, where the government and military has to take action when walkers start appearing. I can't wait to see what they do and if it lives up to the hype. But speaking of hype, one thing I'm going to keep in mind and that I would advise for any true fan is to give the show a chance to develop its own identity (if it gets picked up, of course). I think Better Call Saul is developing its own feel and identity (it's not Breaking Bad) the same way The Walking Dead spinoff series will probably have to (it's not The Walking Dead).

Are you on board for 'The Walking Dead' spinoff series?
