Now, when news broke a few months back that the long-awaited Deadpool movie would indeed be happening - and would see Ryan Reynolds return to the part he tried so valiantly to rescue from what X-Men Origins: Wolverine did to it - there was enough excitement to fuel a blimp.
Since then, though, things have been relatively quiet on the Deadpool front. Sure, we got a glimpse of his brand new movie mask, and a few smaller casting announcements, but other than that...there hasn't been a whole lot happening.
That, though, is largely because the casting process seems to still be very much underway, meaning there's simply not all that much news to report - and yet, a leaked document from that same process might just have revealed who two of the movie's main characters are.
Deadpool Just Got a Sidekick...and a Villain
Now, it all started when Jeff Sneider from The Wrap revealed that:
Now, those characters are, most likely, not actually going to be called Simon or Ridge - seeing as they recently cropped up in a leaked casting call document that featured a whole bunch of fairly obvious pseudonyms.
If ComicBook.com's Jamie Lovett is correct, though, those documents might just shed a light on which comic-book characters we'll see on screen.
TJ Miller's Simon, for instance, is described as:
"Any ethnicity, late 20s to early 40s. Quirky, great sense of humor. Smart, funny, but more than a little bit slippery. Fast talker, always looking to make a buck. He looks out for himself first and foremost, but reveals loyalty at the end of the day."
Which sure does sound a whole lot like Deadpool's fundamentally untrustworthy friend Weasel, who's been widely expected to appear in the movie.
Ed Skrein's Ridge, meanwhile, is described as:
"Any ethnicity, early 30s to early 50s. Big, muscular, dangerous, violent, vain, insecure and more than a bit of a dick…. but with a sense of humor. He is not a psychopath, he’s practical but morally neutral—he doesn’t enjoy torturing people, he just doesn’t care."
Which, as Lovett points out, may very well be perennial Deadpool antagonist Garrison Kane - a long-serving part of the Weapon X program (which will likely feature in the film allowing it to tie in to Wolverine's history).
Who, intriguingly, has in the comics tended to alternate between something approaching heroism, mind-controlled villainy and general moral indifference.
Which sounds about right for a Deadpool villain...
What do you reckon, though? Will we see Miller and Skrein play Weasel and Garrison Kane? Which other comic-book characters do you think'll make it into the movie? Will we actually see Cable?
