Famed director Neill Blomkamp, known for the critically acclaimed hit District 9, shocked fans around the world earlier this year after revealing he was working on his own Aliens project.
Posting to his Instagram account, Blomkamp flaunted a raft of exciting concept art showing revamped locations, a badass-looking Hicks, and even Ripley wearing a “space jockey” helmet very similar to those seen briefly and inexplicably in Alien and in a greater capacity in its spin-off Prometheus, hinting at a possible cross-over movie.
Blomkamp said at the time the art was "a mental stroll into the world Ridley Scott created."
Well now, thanks to super talented make-up artist and Hollywood effects specialist, David Woodruff, this stroll is no longer just a mental one - it's a real life one!
David and his father, Tom Woodruff Jr. (who worked on both the Alien and Terminator franchises), have recreated the concept art using parts of the original set and complex make-up techniques.
Woodruff said the make up took approximately 2 1/2 hours to apply - and you can definitely see why. Look at the left hand side of Hicks' face!:
In an interview with TheTerminatorFans.com, Woodruff revealed,
"The armor is actually Michael Beihn’s armor from Aliens!"
David's company, Amalgamated Dynamics Inc, has worked on the Alien franchise almost since its beginnings, and it seems that they're game for a new movie, too:
"I haven’t heard anything about a 3rd installment [of Aliens vs Predators], not even rumors. This Neill Blomkamp project is the first possibility I’ve seen or heard of of another Alien film and I’m all about it. I know the guys at Amalgamated Dynamics are pushing for something like this too. It’s time."
