It can't be easy to strike up a romance in the Avengers, especially at this Age of Ultron stage of things. But there are a lot of reasons to believe that there will be some love in the air during [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) - even if it's the kind that will probably only lead to heartbreak and Black Widow binging on some late night ice cream as her beau gets locked up in some underground government bunker. You know how that goes...
A Star Crossed Love?
What will be the deal with Black Widow and Hulk in Avengers 2? They certainly had their special moment in the first Avengers. If you call running for your life while being chased by a big green monster a moment. Not exactly your typical meet-cute but in the realm of touching superhero moments, it's not the worst way to get to know someone.
A while back there was a big script leak - basically the first 20 minutes of the movie ended up being described online. According to this info, the movie begins with Baron von Strucker (last seen at the end of Captain America Winter Soldier, with his paws on Loki's scepter) being brought down and the group celebrating his defeat at Stark's pad. Apparently, during this little celebration we'll be seeing some sparks flying between Black Widow and Bruce Banner.
This rumor hasn't exactly been denied by Joss Whedon who has said, "They’re an unlikely pair, but there’s something about the two of them that neither can deny.” Which pretty much falls completely in line with what Mark Ruffalo said about Hulk and Black Widow, "His relationship with Natasha deepens. There's something similar about the two of them. I see them as lost souls. They're kindred in some ways."
Is There a Bruce/Natasha Future?
Seeing Hulk battling the Hulkbuster and the rage in his eyes in the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, it has a lot of people thinking that things aren't going to end up well for the guy. So much so that I've speculated that Hulk may even be the catalyst for the upcoming Civil War. But I really hope this relationship between Banner and Black Widow might be given some time to evolve in future movies.
Many people, including me, want a Black Widow movie - but if that isn't going to happen, Black Widow made Captain America: Winter Soldier a whole lot better and maybe her presence is what could get a solo Mark Ruffalo Hulk movie into theaters?
Vision of a Scarlet Witch
What about the other possible romance? Is Avengers 2 planting the seeds for a Scarlet Witch and Vision coupling? Is there another reason to introduce both of these characters in the same movie when their marriage is the stuff of legend in the Marvel books?
Scarlet Witch herself, Elizabeth Olsen said some pretty revealing things about her character's motivations in the Avengers 2 plot...
"Our characters have a lot of anger, especially towards Tony Stark, and we want revenge. We meet Ultron, and he’s someone who preaches peace and… believes what we believe, which is that the Avengers create destruction and that Tony Stark’s bomb is responsible for killing our parents."
It sounds like the movie will definitely be playing up the Maximoff angle with Scarlet Witch and her brother Quicksilver, and their homeland may have been a target for one of Stark Industries' bombs. We'll see how that plays out, but I'm wondering about her history with robots here.
We haven't gotten the best of looks at what angle the movie will be taking with Paul Bettany's Vision - but the actor is definitely performing the role and not just voicing JARVIS 2.0. The only elaboration that Paul Bettany has given is that Vision's relationship with Scarlet Witch is, "protective". Good enough for me - I hear wedding bells!
