The film Cannibal Holocaust is one of the most gruesome and vile films out there. The film incorporates arson, murder, rape, and cannibalism. The plot consists of a documentary crew who went out to film native/indigenous people and never returned. Two months after a search crew was sent to find them, and only managed to find their film canisters.
Ten days after the "found footage" film Cannibal Holocaust came out in 1980 in Milan, it was immediately confiscated. The director Deodato was charged for several counts of murder.
With the prospect of prison looming over Deodato's head it didn't take long for the director to admit that Cannibal Holocaust was not real "found footage" film. It was all a marketing technique used to hypnotize the world; it was not a snuff film.
Many people believed the film to be an actual snuff film and until Deodato brought the whole cast back together, to prove he was not a murderer.
After the cast members came to the director's aid, he was finally let off the hook.
However, this does not change the fact that this is a very violent and gruesome film. Real animals were harmed in the making of this film. This is one of the most controversial films ever made, and that is why it is still banned in over 50 countries.
