Every now and then, a few gems pop out of the Australian Film Industry. But before you Americans click out of this article, take a few seconds to see what I am on about.

I’ll be lying to say the least that American or any other international cinema is the same as Australian cinema.

It isn't.

In fact they are so far apart that Australian cinema is heavily scrutinized and in its’ entirety, has a few issues. But that is another story.

As I was saying, every now and then, a few gems pop out of Australian Film Industry that creates hope for not only the Australian Film Industry itself but shows the world that Australian Film is far from dying.

This is the case for Mack Lindon’s RISE.

RISE is a true underdog story that was filmed in Queensland. The story itself is based on Director Mack Lindon’s life and is about fighting for what is right and having faith during times of trouble.

The story, as the synopsis tells us, “is a true story about a young nurse falsely accused of rape. Stripped of his career and his freedom, Will is forced to survive maximum security jail. The film centers on an unlikely friendship formed with Jimmy, a hardened armed robber and the legal battle by a prominent lawyer who must compromise status and wage to prove his innocence.”

I am not the one for big reviews so I will make this short.

RISE is a truly exceptional underrated movie that shines light in to a world that is seen as bleak and dark. Although this movie may have a few faults, what makes it a classic and a movie to remember is the acting and story. With new comer Nathan Wilson taking the lead as Will, we relate and sympathize with the character as he battles to survive prison. Martin Sacks, a well-known Australian actor, steals every scene as harden criminal Jimmy Cove who befriends Will and realizes the importance of redemption. These are just two out of the exceptional cast of actors who bring this story to life in a unique and memorable way.

RISE is what I call an underrated Australian classic that will stand the test of time. It’s an Aussie gem that is simply beautiful and a treasure to watch. It's a story that describes the human condition in such a way that we ourselves have to ask questions that may change our ideals or the way we think. RISE is not just about Mack Lindon's story, it is about all of our stories of survival, faith and life.
