The Mortal Kombat video game series has become synonymous with terms like 'ultra-violence,' 'mass controversy,' and 'brutal fatalities.' Now, it can add 'comic book characters' to that list.
GamerFitnation recently hounded Todd McFarlane at 2015's New York Toy Fair about the inclusion of Spawn in Warner Bros.' famed fighting series. Fans of the dark comic character will be pleased to hear that McFarlane responded by confirming he'd already established a deal with the company, loaning the license out for an unspecified period of time.
Considering Warner's other major franchise, Injustice: Gods Among Us 2, is still a long way off, it seems likely that players will get the chance to take control of the legendary Spawn in Mortal Kombat X, and I couldn't be more excited!
And He's Not the Only One
If Spawn wasn't enough, convincing rumors have been spreading regarding some truly epic pop culture icons that may also be bludgeoning their way to victory in the brutal brawler.
Horror fans rejoice, because those characters are the formidable Predator and the unforgettable villain, Jason Voorhees!
There's certainly precedent for their inclusion, after Freddy Krueger popped up in Mortal Kombat 9 as an extra, nightmarish downloadable treat.
If all these rumors are true, gamers and horror fans alike could be in for quite a wild ride when Mortal Kombat X finally releases on April 14.
