Now, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice may currently be generating enough fan-excitement to power Metropolis, but that doesn't mean we aren't set to see a whole lot more in the way of DC superhero-ing awesomeness in 2016. After all, August next year will bring the release of Suicide Squad - and since that's set to feature the bundle of bad-assery that is The Joker, there's a whole lot to be excited about.
What's more, it turns out that we might just be set to see another legendary Batman villain return to our screens in the movie. All because...
Jay Hernandez Is Set to Join the Cast
Or, at least, that's what the latest information from The Wrap seems to suggest.
They're reporting that Hernandez (who you might recognize from Friday Night Lights, Crazy/Beautiful or Hostel) is in talks to join the movie's cast - and, intriguingly, his role is being kept very much under wraps.
The one hint they do have, though?
"He could be playing an inmate on the same cell block as The Joker"
Which Means He's Set to Play a Classic DC Villain
The big question, though? If those reports are accurate, just who'll Hernandez be playing?
Well, there are two leading candidates...
Yup, that's right, Bane - the very same villain Tom Hardy played so engagingly in The Dark Knight Rises. There has, after all, long been a suspicion that the villain - a frequently recurring member of the Suicide Squad in the comic-books - would make some sort of appearance in the film.
Add in the fact that there's a distinct lack of almost any other Latino super-villains in the DC universe, and the Bat-breaking villain and Hernandez may well be a natural fit.
Alternatively, though, Hernandez could well be playing...
The reasoning? This recently released image from the movie's director David Ayer, showing a flame-thrower test in advance of Suicide Squad entering production.
The intriguing thing about that?
There's only one DC character who's known primarily for using a flamethrower, and that's the long-time Bat-villain Firefly.
Could the release of that image have been timed to coincide with Hernandez's casting, and suggest that he'll be playing the villain in the movie? Or alternatively, could we see both Firefly and another villain, played by Hernandez?
Sadly, we may not know much more for a good old while yet - but in the meantime, here's hoping!
