The pedal has been firmly applied to the metal yet again thanks to the arrival of the brand new international trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road. On close inspection new footage is pretty scarce with the preview, but if it gives us another excuse to see Tom Hardy tearing across the desert with a mob of motors at his back and a sandstorm running alongside him, then by gum we’re not going to ignore it.

Taking the coveted mantle of the Road Warrior previously inhabited by Mel Gibson, Fury Road sees Hardy as Max Rockatansky, a lonely hero in a dead world who encounters a femme fatale by the name of Furiosa (Charlize Theron). This bionic-armed lady has plans to cross the deserts in hope of survival, whilst avoiding the evil clutches of Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne returning to the franchise he arrived in as Toecutter in 1979) and his gang. Naturally Max steps in to give a helping hand and drive them off whatever road is left in the process. Vroom, vroom.

Bleak but beautiful, some of the visuals in this look absolutely stunning and plant Fury Road still firmly in the place of what could be the biggest surprise this year. The cast is immense (that’s Nicolas Hoult as Nux commenting on the day as well) and the stunts look to be doing a fine job of making us go ‘oooh’,’aaah’ and ‘sweet jimminy billy bob how are they still alive?’ and so forth.

Be sure to get involved in the upcoming road rage when Mad Max: Fury Road arrives in cinemas May 15.
