For once in his lifetime, Spider Man needs saving. Recently Marvel and Sony came to an agreement to share Spider Man with both companies working together on the next installment in the Spider Man Franchise. However for a reboot to work so soon after the last reboot, Marvel and Sony need to do something to bring back excitement for the Spider Man franchise. They need to do something different as they bring Spider-Man to The Avengers. Here are my top 5 ways Sony and Marvel can reinvigorate the Spider Man franchise. I have already spoken quite a bit about "The Death Of Spider Man" so I will exclude that story arc from this list. I still think it would be great and it is one of my top choices however as a Spider Man fan, I would be happy with any of these ideas coming to life.

5. Spider Man 2099

Huge risk, great pay off
Huge risk, great pay off

First up on our list we have Spider Man 2099. A huge risk no doubt but if successful could relaunch the Spidey franchise. Taking Spider Man into the fantasy future of flying cars would be great not just visually, but for the story as well. This is ground that has yet to be explored and a part of the property that should definitely be brought to the silver screen. Just Imagine Spider Man swinging through a futuristic New York City and jumping off of flying cars. Amazing.

4. One off Spider Man films (James Bond Style)

He looks damn good in a tux
He looks damn good in a tux

Not all superhero films have to be part of a larger story. There is something to be said for a self contained story. A one off if you will. The James Bond series used this formula for years and to great effect. More recently, the X-Men series did something similar with The Wolverine. A self contained story centered on Wolverine that was not worried about the broad plot lines of the whole series. The Spidey franchise could greatly benefit from this. Instead of always worrying about setting up the next one (a la [The Amazing Spider-Man](movie:45497) series), Lets just focus on making one really good film. A film that will have people excited for the next one (If there even needs to be a sequel). Imagine adaptations of Spider Man: Rein, Kraven's Last Hunt, and so on. The possibilities are endless. I'm ready for a self contained Spider Man movie. Are you?

3. The Clone Saga

Creepy. But great.
Creepy. But great.

I loved Ultimate Spider Mans Clone Saga. It had to be one my favorite arcs and had some great emotional payoff

(Aunt May finding out Peters secret identity)

The story arc also gave us Jessica Drew, The Ultimate Universe's Spider Woman, a clone of Peter, and a fantastic character. This arc is ripe for a film adaptation and would provide the series with new characters, heroes and villains, to use. I have yet to read the Clone Saga from the 616 universe. I have heard fans are divided on that particular arc. I've also heard its pretty wacky. Personally I think that's fine. The past five Spider Man films have been pretty mundane when you think about it. They basically went like this. First, Peter Parker deals with the usual Parker luck. Second, the villain is introduced. And Third, Peters love interest is captured and taken (3/5 times) to a tall building where Peter has to save her. Its Boring. Old. Tired. Sony and Marvel shouldn't be afraid to adapt a wacky story arc. They should seek them out.

2. Ben Reilly as Spider Man/Found footage

Scarlet Spider

Who doesn't love Ben Reilly? OK not everyone loves Ben Reilly however I think introducing him as the next Spider Man could be beneficial to the series. Imagine a movie where the audience doesn't know who the real Peter Parker is. Adding some mystery to the series would be great. I imagine a Spider Man movie through the eyes of a reporter. A reporter who suspects there is something wrong with Spider Man. Found footage segments. Shaky cam. A Spider Man movie where we see Spidey through the eyes of your average person. The MCU has never done something like this. It would be Spider Man meets Gone Girl. I can see it already. It would be new. It would be different. A new type of Spider Man film for a new generation

1. Spider Man on Netflix

Just regular teenage stuff
Just regular teenage stuff

My personal favorite. Spider Man would absolutely flourish as a TV show. With a TV show we would not only get see all the great Spider Man action we know and love, but also the day to day life of Peter Parker. Episodes centered around Peters time at Mid-town High, trying to do right by Aunt May, His love life, and his struggle to balance his life as superhero and a regular teenager would be TV gold. Imagine a 12 episode Spider Man show on Netflix with a [Game of Thrones](movie:817617) budget. You Want it already don't you.
