First of all, i'm going to be honest and tell you that when I saw this movie in theaters...I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. My boyfriend and I saw it during a matinee (the only ticket worth paying for, right?) , and we were the only people in the theater, which made it even more scary.
I think what made it so scary for me was that it was set during the time of the Charles Manson cults, so the fact that a bunch of crazies were running around gave me a feeling of uncertainty for this couple. And when the home invasion took place...I was beyond terrified. Thankfully I already knew to always keep my door locked, but still, the thought of it is so creepy. Plus, the movie had all sorts of jumpy scenes and surprises around every corner...I just didn't know when to open my eyes!
And for those of you who haven't seen [Annabelle](movie:1217914) or The Conjuring, this movie is supposed to take place before The Conjuring. It tells the story of the doll that was briefly mentioned by Ed and Lorraine Warren, two 'ghost hunters', as some people would call them. I would encourage you to check out [The Conjuring](movie:600664) as well, as it is based on a true story. The original Perron family will be shown in the Conjuring 2 when it comes to theater in 2016. But for now, you can Google them and learn a little bit on your own!
Above is the real Annabelle doll, a Raggedy Anne type, that really doesn't look scary at first sight to anybody. But don't let it fool you, because no matter what...do not open.
The movie is set in the 60's, the time when Charles Manson and his Manson Family were active. A young husband and his expecting wife are settled in a suburban home in Santa Monica, living next door to friends from their church. The older couple next door had a daughter who ran away to join a group of "hippies", and her name was Annabelle. So one night while everybody is sleeping, the lead female character hears disturbing noises going on next door, so her husband goes next door to check on them. The husband runs and tells her to call the police, so she does, but that's when Annabelle enters her home and attacks Mia, the leading lady. She is stabbed in the belly, but don't worry...the baby is fine! So anyway, the police finally come just in time for Annabelle to have already committed suicide. And by shedding her blood on the doll that Mia's husband had given her as a present...Annabelle's demonic spirit now lived inside of the doll. So you can probably already guess what happens now.
