Disney's Hercules remains one of the most underrated movies of all time (Kanye agrees), and I still maintain that the movie deserved an amazing, mythical roller coaster at one of the Disney theme parks.

With Disney now rebooting old animated properties to make way for sparkly, visual stunning live-action ones (like [Maleficent](movie:39352) and upcoming [Cinderella](movie:373064)), I think it's high time to show Hercules its due respect. Let's get a top notch cast together and perhaps a new approach to the story—more Meg, please—in order to make what could certainly be the greatest live-action Disney movie to date.

If studio execs offered me total control over casting, here's who I would like to see in a realistic Hercules. (Spoiler alert: it's not The Rock).

Hercules - Tom Hiddleston

Let's state the obvious right off the bat: Hiddleston would have to do a little bulking for the role of Hercules, but what actor wouldn't? Plus he already has the appropriate hair color/shape and enough similar facial features to the animated Herc to make him the obvious choice in my book.

Plus, we've already seen Hiddles play a clever schemer whose power comes from his brain. I think it's time to see him as a lovable strongman who just wants to play nice and get back home.

Hades - Michael Keaton

We know he can do wacky with intense make-up (Beetlejuice). We know he's a pro at altering his voice (Batman). And, he's on the heels of a huge comeback ([Birdman](movie:780317)). I want to see this Hollywood nice guy play this iconic villain in all his smarmy glory.

Megara - Emma Stone

For the wise-cracking, street-smart, morally conflicted leading lady, there is no other choice in my mind but Emma Stone. The actress has impeccable comedic timing (I still can't get over how much she killed me in Easy A), and she excels at playing the cynical, intelligent girls. Top that off with the simple fact that she looks as close to Megara as any actual human could, and I just don't see how there could be any argument here.

Philoctetes - Danny DeVito

Sometimes, the original casting is the best casting. Is there anyone besides Danny DeVito who could pull of the wisecracking, cat-calling satyr and remain lovable? I don't think so.

DeVito is the only Phil.

Zeus - Liam Neeson

I don't care that Liam Neeson has already played the role of Zeus in a couple movies. In fact, I'm putting that fact under the "pro" column. I want to see Neeson do a more lovable version, kind of like his fatherly performance in Love Actually, but remain the toughest, scariest guy in the room. That IS the Zeus in Disney's interpretation of Hercules, and I certainly wouldn't mind some playful banter with Hiddleston, either.

What do you think of these selections? Who should play Pain and Panic and the various muses and gods?
