This is one of the most anticipated titles of 2015. This game has had more interest on our social media pages than any other title. Why? Simple, it is going to be amazing.
This edition of Batman has pushed all known boundaries, this time around it has introduced characters new and old, fierce rivalries will culminate in iconic battles amongst a familiar yet entirely new [Gotham](series:1127075) City.
Arkham knight is based on the DC Comics superhero Batman, Batman Arkham Knight is the successor to Warner Bros 2013 video game Batman: Arkham Origins, and the fourth main game in the Batman: Arkham series.
"One year after the death of the Joker during the events of Arkham City. Batman is struggling to come to terms with the absence of his nemesis and the uncomfortable feeling that the pair shared a bond deeper than either could admit. Without the Joker's chaotic presence, Gotham's citizens have never felt safer, and crime in the city has dramatically declined. However, this gives Batman's enemies, including Penguin, Two-Face, and Harley Quinn, a chance to unite with the singular goal of killing Batman.
On Halloween night, Scarecrow threatens the city with his newly created strain of fear toxin and bombs planted throughout Gotham, forcing the evacuation of the city's six million civilians. Only criminals remain in the city, leaving Commissioner Gordon and the Gotham City Police outnumbered. Anticipating a new threat, Batman continues to develop crime-fighting technology, and maintains a vigil over the city." - WBGames
Rating Changed From Teen to Mature
Rocksteady's founder and Arkham Knight director Sefton Hill has said that this was never their original intention. The story came organically and there was no compromise is the story they wanted to tell. Although this may mean that younger player may miss out on the latest Batman experience it was felt that the writers could not water down the story or they would risk losing that very passion that has got Batman this far.
"I'm not blind to the fact that [the M rating] does mean some fans will miss out," he explained. "I don't want to be oblivious to that fact. It would have been wrong to water down the game and deliver a story we didn't believe in to keep the game 'mass market' or enable it for more people. We feel that's the wrong way to go about it. We said we love the story and we don't want to jeopardize that." - IGN
Batman Arkham Knight will have its dark elements, the lead protagonist alone is a scary mother. The title still includes the classic quick wit and occasional humorous exchange but this time we may be looking at a slightly darker undertone to these exchanges.
Batman has learnt new moves to, prepare for serious take down moves. Assassination moves and exploding limbs are all in stall for the streets of Gotham come June 2nd.
Hill concluded that Arkham Knight's story will be "more mature" than previous games. Enemies will "fight dirty and take [Batman] to dark places,". IGN
"The game introduces Batman's car, the Batmobile, as a drivable vehicle. The bulletproof Batmobile can be summoned to the player's location at will, while on foot or, if airborne, the car can be sent to meet Batman as he lands. The vehicle features the ability to perform jumps, speed boosts, rotate on the spot, smash through objects like barricades and trees, and fire missiles that can immobilize enemy vehicles. Batman can eject from the Batmobile and immediately begin gliding around Gotham City." WBGames
This beast is fully upgradable and can be summoned from any point on the map. You will also be please to know that Riddler Trophies are returning, now including objectives requiring the Batmobile, such as a timed race in an underground tunnels.
Fly around the city
Well, glide I should say. Batmans iconic cape will allow players to jump and glide anywhere within the city. There is an increased glide time introduced to Arkham Knight. This is achieved with much higher climbs, and greater area to travel to. The grapple also returns, with this you can instantly change direction of glide or fall.
Batman can now engage enemies from further away. The is a new counter mechanic introduced to the combat sequences allows Batman to counter an attack and turn it against an opponent. Arkham Knight also introduces what is known as a "Fear Takedown", where Batman can subdue up to three enemies at once whilst remaining undetected. This is done within a kind of time warp effect similar to bullet time in various other titles. Time slows after each take down, which allows the player to target the next enemy.
Be careful here however as all basic enemies now in Arkham Knight have the same special abilities as most bosses from previous games. They can charge and tackle Batman cancelling any special move being attempted. They are stronger, meaner and all round more villainous than ever before.
The main antagonist is of course the titular Arkham Knight. Many originally thought that this was an aptly appointed pseudonym for Batman himself but as time has gone on it is now apparent that this is actually the name of his appointed nemesis. Check him out below.
The Scarecrow was the original bad guy for this edition but things may have swayed somewhat. The Scarecrow was thought to be the main antagonist, uniting all the heathens and villains across Gotham in an attempt to remove Batman once and for all.
However, Game Informers most recent chat with Sefton Hill explained what the title really means:
“We hadn’t in the previous games introduced someone new to the universe. We wanted to introduce someone who could really challenge Batman to go head to head with him in lots of different ways. We’re not talking about those ways just yet but this guy is definitely a formidable foe for Batman.”GameInformer
The game will still include all of Batman's usual and legendary enemies. Gotham is still blighted by the same ruthless bad guys as it once was, except this time they have bigger guns, more men and free roam of Gotham. Here is a further few bad guys that will feature in the title (some feature as cameo).
"Are you ready for some more? Explore! Find my challenges. And when you fail to solve them and lie blubbering like an ignorant child on the floor, you will know that The Riddler is better than you." - Riddler
With an obsessive need for attention and genius-level intellect, Edward Nigma (formerly Edward Nashton) is determined to be the most outlandish of Gotham City's criminals, concocting elaborate series of clues and riddles around his crimes. Good Luck this time around!
"There is no savior, no more hope.....no more Batman." - Scarecrow
"Taunted and bullied in his youth, Dr. Jonathan Crane vowed to overcome his fears through the study of psychology and biochemistry. Kicked out of his university for experimenting on human subjects, Crane adopted the identity of the Scarecrow and armed himself with a specialized fear-inducing gas that makes a person's deepest fears become frighteningly real. His ongoing criminal reign of terror makes him one of Batman's most psychologically dangerous foes." - Arkham Wiki
"If the coin says your time is up...then you'll die!" - Two-Face
"District Attorney Harvey Dent was one of Batman's strongest allies in Gotham City, until a criminal threw acid in Dent's face, hideously scarring him. The wounds fractured his psyche, and he was reborn as a schizoid criminal mastermind, obsessed with duality. His former good-luck charm, a "two-headed" trick silver dollar, was damaged on one side in the attack, and Dent has seized on it as a reflection of his half-scarred visage.
He flips it to decide the fates of his victims. Despite Batman's efforts to reform his former ally, Dent is consumed by his fixation on chance, and his crimes are designed to prove out his diametric philosophy." - Arkham Wiki
"It would be a shame to get blood all over my nice new outfit" - Harley Quinn
"A Blackgate Prison and Arkham Asylum psychiatrist initially assigned to treat the Joker, Dr. Harleen Quinzel instead became fixated on her patient, believing herself to be in love with him. She helped him escape from confinement and took on her own criminal identity as Harley Quinn. Quinn is a violent and unpredictable felon whose only motivation, beyond general mayhem, is achieving the Joker’s approval. Because of his cruel and mercurial nature, this in some ways makes her just another one of his victims - albeit a very dangerous one." - Arkham Wiki
"Are you gonna be a good boy and give up nicely?" - Penguin
"Your methods and tactics are impressive, but inferior. They will not save you." - Deathstroke
The game is scheduled to launch June 2nd 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Batman super fans and collectors might also be interested in a $200 Arkham Knight special edition that comes with a model Batmobile.
