A year or so ago, Hugh Jackman stated that he was done playing Wolverine after he finished with his contract. Over the last couple of weeks, Jackman has taken back that statement saying that he would play Wolverine as long as he could and that he couldn't see anyone else playing him. Jackman has been playing Logan so long that it's likely that everyone will have a hard time seeing him played by anyone else. Good thing is that Wolverine has enough enemies to fight and friends to fight with that should keep Jackman in Wolverine movies for years to come.
Ogun and Kitty Pryde:
While "The Wolverine" was Logan's first stint in Japan in the movies, there is a rich history of him and Japan. One thing the X-Men movies left out was Logan's fighting prowess. Logan does more than just slash cut stab people. Logan has had training all over the world and his training with Ogun. Ogun was Wolverine's mentor in the ways of the ninja. But Ogun was also an evil being that was training Logan and honing his body so that he could one day take his over. Ogun would later take over Kitty Pryde's body and trained her as a ninja in an attempt to turn her into an assassin. Kitty Pryde and Logan would eventually fight off Ogun and would kill Ogun. Like almost all villains, Ogun would come back and torment Logan over and over, but Logan kept on winning.
The good thing about using Ogun is that this story could show Logan and Kitty Pryde's relationship. It's more father and daughter than teammate. And as Kitty got older, Logan started looking at her as his equal and not just the scared little girl who showed up one day. This would also give Ellen Page a well deserved bigger role in an X-Men movie. She's too god an actress to just be a side character and Kitty Pryde deserves more screen time.
Since The Merc with a Mouth is getting his own movie, there is no reason he can't be in a movie with Wolverine. Before you say it, Deadpool has never been in a Wolverine movie. That abomination doesn't count and thanks to "Days of the Future Past" that timeline was erased. Besides Deadpool also being a Weapon X alumni, they have the weirdest love hate relationship ever. This could easily be the best buddy movie since "Lethal Weapon" because unlike Riggs and Murtaugh when these two fight they will literally be taking pieces out of each other. It's the "Odd Couple" with sharp object and bullets. Just like "Guardians of the Galaxy" the movie could be a combination of goofy and deep when the two of them realize that they both have had a horrible life.
It would also be really easy to use Weapon X and their lackies (Wild Child, Sabretooth, Mesmero, The Director, etc.) as the main antagonists in the movie. Both Logan and Wade hate the Weapon X Pogram for what they've done to them and this make for an easy and logical solutution to put the two together.
It would be the classic goofy guy and ultra serious guy movie and while it may be extremely cliche, this could be the first time Marvel does a kind of buddy action/flick. It may be a nit much, but it is highly doubtful that a movie with the two of them bombs. Especially with the right writers and director.
The Reavers and Jubilee:
While she may not be the most loved characters among comic book fans, fans of the cartoon and casual fans love Jubilee. Regardless, she did save Wolverine's life after the Reavers (a group of cyborgs who's goal is to kill mutants). With their leader lady Deathstrike (who was poorly used in X-Men 2) got together and defeated Wolverine and then crucified him. If not for Jubilee, Wolverine would have died and Logan has been thankful for her ever since.
Logan is always protective of female X-Men, but maybe none more than Jubilee. She is the daughter that he never had and Logan did whatever he could to keep her safe. The feeling for Wolverine was reciprocated. She looked at him like a father figure and almost never left his side. This was a mutually beneficial relationship. Jubilee found someone to look up to and latch onto after being homeless and Wolverine found someone to care about.
Daken The Son of Wolverine:
Some of you may not know this, but Wolverine has a son and he a complete a-hole and one of the most selfish characters ever created. He has even gone so far as to kill people to get reservations at a restaurant. He does whatever he wants whenever he wants and his control over people's emotions with his pheromones powers makes it that much easier for him to get his way. They even worked on Ares the God of War. Daken isn't as strong as his dad nor does he heal as fast, but he's faster and doesn't give in to his animal nature as easy.
Daken is a match Logan can't win. Daken hates him because he thinks he killed his mother (Logan's wife) and left him to die. This is far from true. His wife was murdered under the orders to send Wolverine off the deep end. Daken was then raised by...
Best way to describe it is the way Daniel Way wrote Wolverine say it. Romulus is the boogie man that was pulling all of the strings in Logan's life. Everyone in Logan's bloodline has been under the thumb of Romulus whether they knew it or not. He used them to as his agents so he could stay in the shadows and control the world and never have to get his hands dirty. He is the reason Wolverine went into Weapon X and the reason Wolverine hates Sabretooth. Romulus even put the hit out on Wolverine's wife while she was pregnant with Daken. Romulus took Daken from his mother's womb and raised Daken to be a killer by harboring Daken's hate for his father.
With Romulus could also come with the death of Sabretooth and the Muramasa Blade. A weapon made from all of Wolverine's hate and molded into a weapon that can kill anything. A Romulus series could be a two or three part series. The death of Sabretooth, finding Romoulus and losing to him, and finally defeating him. Romulus isn't a popular character, but he is a big bad guy that would have a major payoff considering what he did to Wolverine in his life.
More than maybe a villain, X-23 could have her own movie or show. Just her being born was an event in itself. Having actually been born in a Weapon X type of facility and having a mother that did her best to keep her daughter's humanity despite X-23 being sent of assassination mission is a great way to start a movie by pulling on the audiences heartstrings. Laura (X-23) would live on the streets for a while after she escaped the Facility and met a group of kids that were homeless with powers. An X-23 movie could be really deep even without Wolverine in it.
Besides the drama, X-23 is a more than capable fighter. She had been trained since birth to be Wolverine but better and she is almost there. She can fight anyone and stay in the fight. She may be cold, but she is effective and efficient. Maybe at the end her and Wolverine meet and have the fight we all want to see and Wolverine takes her to the school. Regardless, she should almost certainly be in a X-Men, Wolverine, or solo movie.
Of all of Wolverine's enemies, Omega Red seems to give Wolverine the most trouble. Not only does he have the tentacle that give him a great reach advantage, he also secretes a pheromone that causes sickness and death (with prolonged exposure), he also has a healing factor and his tentacles that drain the life from people. He is near unstoppable. Unfortunately for him, the tentacles are made of a radioactive metal called carbonadium that keeps Omega red weak and sick unless he drains people of the their life. Only Wolverine knows where the C-Synthesizer is that can stabilize the radiation poisoning. But Wolverine forgot where it is and when he remembered, he wasn't going to tell him anyway.
He can read minds and see the next move his opponents make and the first time he fought Wolverine, he beat the snot out of him. Mr. X is a bit of a stuck up and psychotic rich kid who learned how to fight and started killing people to fill his blood lust. Wolverine is the one person who eventually handed X his lunch and X is obsessed with Wolverine because of it. Wolverine later told X he'd never fight him again because it's what X wanted. Logan left laughing, X stayed disappointed and in shock.
Logan's "Friend". He wouldn't make a great villain or side kick, but he would definitely make a guy for him to partner with even if only for a short time.
If I forgot anything (and with Wolverine, I'm sure I did) let me know in the comments.
