According to Variety, Ben Hardy, one of the stars of long-running UK soap opera, EastEnders is now joining the cast of the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse.

The 24 year old has ended his near two-year stint on EastEnders as Peter Beale. His character, whose twin sister was murdered, was heavily involved in a huge, near year-long whodunit mystery over his sibling’s death. The recent conclusion of the storyline was watched by more than ten million viewers.

Hardy is a relative newcomer, acting-wise. The soap opera and his forthcoming film role represent the entirety of his screen experience to date. He also has a theatre credit, performing on stage in a 2012 UK production of David Hare’s play, The Judas Kiss.

His participation in the new X-Men installment was rumored through most of 2014.

The part he will play has not yet been confirmed though many published reports claim the role will be “important.”

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to debut on May 27, 2016.
