I'm one of those girls walking around with practically a mile of unruly hair on her head. I'd be lying if I said I don't regularly think about chopping it all off and being free from the troubles of straightening, braiding, curling, and styling. Not to say that shorter hair doesn't require maintenance, but my arms hurt whenever I brush my hair.
Here are seven celebrities who looked so beautiful with their pixie cut transformations, that it almost inspired me to cut my hair short. Not quite, but almost.
1. Emma Watson
Whether she's playing Hermione Granger or helping promote her UN campaign for gender equality, He For She, Emma Watson is a role model for women and young girls everywhere. Of course her looks are secondary to her many accomplishments, but she's stunning no matter the length of her hair.
2. Jennifer Lawrence
After dying her hair again and again to play Katniss Everdeen in [The Hunger Games](movie:44466) series and cutting it down to an "awkward" lenght, JLaw just decided it was time for a change. She told Yahoo:
My hair couldn't get any uglier. I don't know, I cut it earlier, and it was just kind of like [shoulder-length] and it grew to that awkward, gross length. I just kept putting it back in a bun, and I said, 'Well I don't want to do this,' so I just cut it off.
I feel you, Jennifer! Sometimes you just have to start fresh.
3. Shailene Woodley
Shailene Woodley may have shed a few tears (understandably) when she had to cut her long hair to play Hazel Grace in the tear-jerking teen romance [The Fault In Our Stars](movie:602185), it ultimately ended up being a great experience and one she called, "a super-fun moment.”
4. Anne Hathaway
Like Woodley, Anne Hathaway knew what she was getting into after taking on the character Fantine in [Les Miserables](movie:204073), she wasn't expecting the emotional shock she'd have to shaving her head.
I’ve now done back-flips out of windows, I’ve jumped off buildings. And cutting my hair reduced me to, like, mental patient-level crying. I was inconsolable.
No matter the crying, it all paid off when she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film.
5. Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman shaved her head on camera to play Evey in V for Vendetta. They only had one shot to capture that scene, and everyone on set was a little concerned it wouldn't turn out well. She ended up winning the Best Actress award for her work from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.
6. Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart isn't new to edgy cuts, especially after playing Joan Jett in the Runaways biopic. She impressed everyone with her copper retro cut this summer, and again with a choppy asymmetrical cut this October at the premiere of [Camp X-Ray](movie:977712). This is a girl who can definitely rock hair at any length or color. It also doesn't hurt that she's a successful A-list actress. Confidence is key, after all!
7. Karen Gillan
Probably one of the most shocking reveals, Karen Gillan whipped off her wig and flaunted her bald head at San Diego Comic-Con in 2013. As we all know, she shaved her head to play Nebula in one of 2014's biggest hits [Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073).
Some of them cut their hair for roles, and others just because they needed a change. Of course, there are lots of actresses who have cut their hair for any number of reasons, and this list is in no way exhaustive, just a few of my favorites.
Long, short, medium or bald, these women look beautiful no matter what the length of their hair.
