Holy Speculation Bat-Fans! Every comic fan has their dream team to do an adaptation of their favorite comic. Today I will do a Top 5 list of directors I would like to see put their own spin on Batman! So let's dive in! Oh and by the way, this whole article will have fan art. Because it's fucking awesome.
5. Alfonso Cuaron
I've been sold on Alfonso Cuaron since Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. That movie was great. The visual style, the performances he was able to get out of the young actors. Let's be honest, before POA, Harry Potter was a pretty campy film series. Cuaron ushered in the darker tone that would be apart of the series for the next five films. Granted, Batman has had no shortage of dark tone in his movies as of late. However, I would love to see Cuaron's take on The Caped Crusader. He did an amazing job on Gravity and I cannot wait to see what he does next.
4. Baz Luhrman
Baz Luhrman has a distinct visual style and I would love to see him lend that visual flare to the Dark Knight. Romeo + Juliet and The Great Gatsby were a lot of fun visually, and I personally really enjoyed Gatsby. Luhrman could definitely provide a very different visual for Batman than what we have ever seen on screen before.
3. Gore Verbinski
You may know Gore Verbinski for directing the original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. I loved the first film and I really believe Verbinski could make a damn good Batman movie. Forget the Pirates sequels and remember the first. The use of practical effects, real sets, and a sprinkle of CGI was great. What if he applied that to a Batman movie? Mr. Gore helped create a whole new world with Pirates and I would really enjoy seeing him play in the Batman universe.
2. Guillermo del Toro
Do I really have to explain this one? Just check out his filmography. He's a fantastic director who gets comic/nerd culture. Hellboy, Hellyboy 2, Pacific Rim, Blade II, Pans Labyrinth. He could nail the tone and visual style Batman needs. Get on it DC.
1. Tim Burton
Tim Burton never got to make that third Batman film we all wanted. Instead we were given Batman Forever, a gift we unfortunately cannot give back along with it's sequel Batman and Robin. So whether he somehow gets to make that second sequel to Batman (1989) or he directs the reboot, I would love to see Burton return to the franchise. Imagine what an older Burton would do with Batman now. It could be really bad... But I like to think he would give us something really special.
So who would you like to see direct a Batman movie? Let everyone know in the comments down below! And don't forget to vote on which of these directors you would like to see do the BatFleck reboot!
