While rumors have been making their way through the galaxy for a while about the return of everyone's favorite smooth-talking gambler, Lando Calrissian, for [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens](movie:711158).
Some of these rumors have even been brought up by Billy Dee Williams himself. In an interview with Cinelinx, the actor addressed the fan outcry over his name being excluded from the official cast list for Episode VII.
Yeah, people were pretty upset about it. But I uh…I may very well…I have a feeling I’m going to show up. There’s nothing I can really discuss about it at this stage.
Now that "feeling" he has probably can't be attributed to Lando being Force sensitive, but as an integral part of the Star Wars family, it's hard to imagine that he'd be excluded. How could anyone say no to this face?
The rumors were further perpetuated when it was announced that BDW would be playing the voice of Lando in the Disney animated series, [Star Wars Rebels](series:965946).
News recently came in from a source over at The Sun who has said that there are plans to include Billy Dee's character in a small cameo in the upcoming films. According to the insider:
It will be a fun cameo. Billy's definitely up for it.
Granted, that's not much to go off of, but it sounds like he might get enough camera time for us to geek out over. Since we know he wasn't included in the cast list for Episode VII, unfortunately, we might have to wait for another movie or two to see him. In any case, seeing BDW wearing that iconic blue cape would be worth waiting a few years for.
Billy Dee Williams already made a good point, though, in saying that Lando didn't even appear until Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back:
People think of me as the original cast, but I didn’t come in until the second movie. I did Empire and then I did Return of the Jedi, but I came in after everyone else was introduced…So I think they’re probably proceeding in that way.
Now all we have to do is wait for an official announcement before popping the champagne. Hope to see you soon, Lando!
