I want to believe. Has Half Life 3 just been confirmed! HTC chairwoman states that they are working with the Half Life team and that Half Life is a target tile for their VR Headset!
Valve and HTC have come together in an attempt to produce a world defining gaming experience within the realm of virtual reality. They claim to have sampled each and every other available VR technology and bettered each one. "You have to see it to believe it".
The headset is equipped with more pixels per screen (1,200 by 1,800 in front of each eye). The frame rate has been pushed up to 90 frames per second, this has apparently nullified any judders providing the player with a smoother gaming experience. This will also cut down on any motion sickness issues.
It will come with its own ergonomic handset that will split into two, this will allow you to interact "limitlessly" within your virtual world.
"The Vive headset was developed in conjunction with Valve, creators of such ground-breaking games as Portal and Half-Life. HTC manufactures some of the finest consumer electronics on the planet and Valve is an unrivaled architect of virtual worlds, so you know the collaboration is something special. Vive is powered by Valve’s SteamVR so plenty of games that take advantage of its capabilities will soon be available on the Steam service." - HTC
Half Life 3 - The future
Just a day after the announcement of the Vive system HTC stated that they hoped to see the rebirth of the iconic Half-Life series through their virtual reality worlds.
HTC chairwoman Cher Wang has addressed the Half Life debate in an interview conducted with the BBC. She said "We are cooperating with Half-Life, and I think... I hope, you know, it will be on it."
HTC' collaboration with Valve again suggests that Half Life 3 could be making its debut on the Vive headset. Valve have been under suspicion for years with numerous unconfirmed rumours leaking out regarding their now hands on involvement in the creation and development of the latest Half Life installment.
Another option will be to trial a previous Half Life title on the VR headset. A virtual remaster of Half Life 2 perhaps. However this just seems like a waste of dev time to me, it lacks significant draw. Competition is fierce, people are not going to buy another costly gaming system without either an already established quality gaming library or without the draw of a knock out title like Half Life 3. What do you think?
Half Life has been gone since 2007, this is too long. Half-Life 2: Episode Three was the predicted next chapter to the series it was also rumoured to be the final Half Life to ever be made. It then came to light in another Valve leak that they had a plan to release a new episode every six to eight months.
Half Life 3 - A Horror?
The new overwhelming consensus is that this episodic model has been scrapped and has been replaced by a full working title in the form of Half Life 3. In an interview back in 2010, Newell hinted to the fans that he intended Valve to exploit the fans' deepest fears in Half Life 3, he summed it up with a comparison to "the death of their children" and "the fading of their own abilities".
He also stated that they had no plans to create a talking protagonist and wanted to limit the players arsenal. This must remain a survival title not run and gun, he wants the format to "largely remain an arm and a crowbar."
There are other horror genre tell tale signs, just a quick look at the latest survival horror title Dying Light provides us with yet another clue into the development of Half Life 3. Valve have hidden a subtle but none the less obvious nod to the world renowned title Half Life.
The gas pipe with a valve attached to it and the circular-saw blade commonly used in Half Life 2 as a projectile for the gravity gun. See below.
Half Life on VR headsets could very well be on the cards. We have no story or character info at this point but we will be updating you as and when we get more info. The Vive system releases this year so we may see our beloved Half Life back in our living rooms by Christmas!
