Danny phantom is animated television series that chronicles the life of 14 year old Danny Fenton who gains ghost-like powers after messing around with his parents ghost-portal machine.Danny soon realizes that ghosts now have access to his dimension and with the help of his friends Sam and Tucker he battles malevolent ghosts to protect his home town while keeping his transformation hidden from his parents.Danny phantom presents a great opportunity to become the next big superhero franchise if given a series of live action(theatrical) movies. The show has tremendous potential and here are the reasons why.
1. Likable protagonist/Hero
Danny has always been a well received character on the show and kept fans entertained throughout the series. We see Danny dealing with day to day issues like friends, family, school and Etc. The way he deals with these issues evolves over the course of show which makes fans appreciate the character more. Every movie franchise needs to have a likable character and Danny could fit the bill since he has been shown to be a well-balanced but imperfect character who makes mistakes and learns from them.
2. Unforeseen future/turn to the Darkside
This is commonly used with most superheroes were they show what the heroes future could have been whether it is them dying a heroes death or living long enough to see themselves turn evil and uses their powers for selfish gains or respect.Danny has episode in the cartoon where he ends up in the future and gets a glimpse at his future self which is oddly similar to his archenemy Vlad masters A.K.A. Vlad Plasmius (foreshadowing). This is essential to creating a multi-layered character and emphasizes that even heroes like Danny can become corrupted and that the future is never truly set in stone.if the film gets made this would have to be saved for last.
3. Rogues gallery/ memorable Villains
The Danny phantom cartoon has boasted some of the best villains to ever appear in animation and some of them could translate very well to the big screen such as Skulker, Vlad Plasmius, Technus, and many more.Danny's villains have varied in terms of style and goals but have always proven a challenge to the paranormal hero.Vlad is Danny's most notable villain since he wants revenge on Danny's dad who he blames for a Lab accident.Skulker is a bounty-hunter who often crosses path with Danny and has proven very formidable despite the typical tropes he symbolizes. In a live action film the villains would have to be fleshed out a bit more in order to be believable while maintaining their own individual brand of evil.
4. Supporting characters
Aside from having a great rogues gallery Danny also has a lot of great supporting characters liker Tucker who can be described as the tech Guru of the group and Sam who can be described as the Down to earth friend who occasionally displays how tough and fearless she can be.Danny also has his sister Jasmine Fenton who is described as overprotective and overachieving, she also believes her parents have a psychological obsession with hunting ghosts.this also includes Jack Fenton and Maddie Fenton who are like ghost-busters 2.0 and are Danny's main support group when he isn't with his friends. The relationships between Danny and his friends and family could play out well on screen as long as it doesn't turn into a half-baked cliche.
Danny phantom definitely has the leniency to borrow elements from other well beloved TV shows and movies such as ghost-busters ,men in black,Grimm, and supernatural since they could accurately capture the concept of the movie. while ghost-busters and men in black were comedic to a degree a Danny phantom live action movie would still have to take a more serious approach with mild humor in order to sell the movie to audiences. This means molding it into a Sci-fi/horror/ fantasy/action adventure movie while still maintaining key elements from the show.
a Danny phantom live action would need to target the teen demographic as well as people who watched this show in the past while appealing to a wider margin of film goers. A studio would need to air the cartoon more frequently and then announce possible plans for a live action movie by getting a consensus from fans. It's not clear who would distribute the film if it was made but the best bet is that nickelodeon would be the obvious choice since they are still holding on to the character with no intention of a live action feature adaptation. However that could change since superheroes are more viable now than they were when the cartoon came out so hopefully a studio purchases the film rights or Nickelodeon decides to produce the film in their own studio.
