It looks like Jessie Usher, from Starz's series, [Survivor's Remorse](series:1306292), has been cast in [Independence Day 2](movie:447723), the sequel to one of the most classic scifi movies ever, from Fox. Usher will play a central character in the new film, as the son of previous star Will Smith's character. Liam Hemsworth will also co-star and Jeff Goldblum will reprise his role from the original film.

Stepping into the shoes of Will Smith, who crushed this role, may not be so easy. Especially considering the film grossed $800 million worldwide at the box office. Director Roland Emmerich is back to take the helm for the film.

The film is set to release on June 24, 2016. It will be produced by Dean Devlin, Emmerich and Harold Kloser. Will Usher break out in similar fashion to Smith back when the original came out? This film could be the catalyst his career needs to push him up to that next level.

When Lebron James produces a TV show, I watch. And Usher is great in Survivor's Remorse, which appears on Starz, but I think landing this role gives him a better shot at blowing up as a big time star. Although, Starz quickly renewed the show for a second season, so he'll be a busy man.

He was also in the dynamic football drama [When the Game Stands Tall](movie:1092745), which I thought he was a definite bright spot in.
