On Wednesday the latest Secret Wars-era series was announced at AV Club: 1872, a series re-purposing heroes such as Captain America, Iron Man and the Hulk in a Wild West style adventure. Written by Gerry Duggan with art by Evan "Doc" Shaner, this series launching in June features :
Sheriff Steve Rogers working to keep the peace in the prairie town of Timely
when two strangers named Anthony Stark
and Bruce Banner come to town.
Duggan told AV Club. "1872 is going to have fistfuls of action, suspense, drama and fun"
When asked if some of Marvel's classic Western heroes like Rawhide Kid or Two-Gun Kid will appear in this series, Duggan said they were but not immediately.
Those great Western characters are out there, and their time will come," says Duggan. "This is not an exaggeration: I had close to 60 pages of notes and ideas on what this version of Marvel’s history contains before I began wrenching on an outline for the first arc. We’ll meet representations of many of these great characters...eventually."
Marvel hasn't released details on the number of issues to expect -- but given Duggan's mention of "the first arc", 1872 could be more than a short limited series.
