Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be the last in the Snake series. The Phantom Pain will tie up all the loose ends in the series and culminate in a scenario that will end the series for good. I hope Snake will be okay!
The father of Metal Gear, Hideo Kojima has stated in a recent press conference that the latest next-gen version of Metal Gear Solid will be the final piece to the puzzle.
"I always say 'this will be my last Metal Gear,'" Kojima said, "but the games in the series that I've personally designed and produced -- Metal Gear on MSX, MG2, MGS1, 2, 3, 4, Peace Walker, and now MGSV -- are what constitute a single 'Metal Gear Saga.' With MGSV, I'm finally closing the loop on that saga." - IGN
Kojima does indeed have somewhat of a reputation for declaring an end to this series after each chapter, but this time... I do believe he means it. There is room for remakes and remasters on next-gen consoles sure, but as far as a new Metal Gear goes, Kojima is done.
"In that sense, this will be the final Metal Gear Solid," Kojima continued. "Even if the Metal Gear franchise continues, this is the last 'Metal Gear.'" - IGN
Metal Gear Solid 5 is the missing link to the original Metal Gear back in 1987. This newest title will be full of references back through the years and back through its predecessors. Phantom Pain will cross the T's and dot the I's on the saga to date.
I recommend anyone planning to buy the Phantom Pain to dust off those previous Metal Gear titles, get in the supplies and play each one through again. If this is the last we will see of Metal Gear lets make it a truly memorable experience.
Whatever happens, I cannot wait to laugh, sweat and cry as we see the sun set on the worlds most iconic gaming title.
Snake, what happened? Snake, Snaaake!
