Everyone knows of Mr. RL Stine, considered the "Stephen King of children's literature." I was even a part of his fan-club way back when. They sent me an autographed picture of him, and I fangirled for days.

But at 71, Robert Lawrence Stine (or Jovial Bob Stine, his pen name for children's books) is still going strong as one of the most well-known authors all over the world. His books have sold over 400 million copies worldwide, and that's not just off of his Goosebumps books...

RL Stine was actually let go from Scholastic during his time writing for the children's magazine Bananas in the 1970s, and that's where all the fun began. He started writing full-time, and that's where his love for horror was born.

His first endeavor was not Goosebumps, as most people think. Stine's first horror novel was Blind Date, released in 1986...and it was all downhill from there.

His first horror book series was Fear Street, published in 1989. Come on, you all remember that series. They played on the misfortunes of teens living in Shadyside, and they induced nightmares like nobody's business.

After the success of Fear Street, Goosebumps was born in 1992. This series was where Stine's career exploded, publishing 62 books (JEEZ!). My personal favorite was The Haunted Mask...but I was also a big fan of Stay Out of the Basement. But this series was the home to novels like Night of the Living Dummy, Say Cheese and Die, One Day in Horrorland...

And to top that off, they turned it into a TV show! You all remember it well, I'm sure. They made the VHS tapes as collection was extensive.

BUT he also writes adult horror! So, for those of us fortunate enough to have grown up with his incredible horror series, he has written The Sitter, Eye Candy, and Red Rain, all geared towards adults. Red Rain is awesome. I read it last year (it was published in 2013, so it's brand new) and I highly suggest that anyone that's a fan of Stine's writing style give it a read. Let the nightmares continue.

But my title was why he's still the coolest guy...well, Goosebumps is being made into a film! Starring Jack Black as a horror author (he's supposed to be RL Stine), his legacy is finally being brought to the big screen. It has been confirmed that The Executioner from A Nightmare in Terror Tower, Slappy the Dummy from Night of the Living Dummy, and the Scarecrow from The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight will be in the film. It is to be released some time in 2015!

The real kicker, though, is RL STINE IS GOING TO BE IN THE FILM. At 71-years-old, the man has had an incredible life as one of the most iconic horror authors of all time. And now he's going to be in THE [Goosebumps](movie:896669) film that has been anticipated since 1998. I'm not sure what his role will be yet, but that's pretty awesome.

Have you read all the Goosebumps books? Are you going to see the new Goosebumps film?!
