Every year we have the viewing pleasures of the usual televised film & television awards:

  • The Academy Awards (ABC)
  • The Golden Globe Awards (NBC)
  • The Emmy Awards (CBS)
  • The People’s Choice Awards (CBS)
  • even the MTV Movie Awards (Viacom Property)

One slight over-sighted event, which should no longer be over-looked, is one of the epic reasons these series and features are so successful… VFX.

What is VFX?

VFX or Visual Effects is used to remove that horrendous green-screen monster of spaces (along with a number of other digital clean-up) you'll most likely kill yourself watching for the full 60 to 120 minutes of your feature. VFX adds all the shots that pretty much make you say, "Woah!" in a theater. It's also what makes your video games... well, video games.

Our other favorite millennials-based website, Buzzfeed, posted a fantastic interactive example of what our current films would be like without our amazing VFX teams & studios.

These studios, along with their incredibly talented teams of artists, are honored and nominated at the annual (non-televised) VES Awards.

What is VES?

The Visual Effects Society (VES) is a global professional honorary society and the entertainment industry's only organization representing the full breadth of visual effects practitioners including artists, technologists, model makers, educators, studio executives, supervisors, PR/marketing specialists and producers.

In layman's terms, the VES are a version of The Academy Awards (Oscars) solely for honoring visual effects in film, TV, gaming, and even commercials.

There are countless VFX houses & post production studios around the world that put in their passion everyday into these images we admire. As an audience, we have such incredible times watching each and every second of these effects that not only catch our eyes, but help tell these incredible stories. Along with our one and only category at The Academy Awards, this amazing group of artists, directors, producers, and technologists deserve more lime-light.
