David Brent: Life on the Road is the long talked about plans for an Office spin-off from multi-talented hyphenate Ricky Gervais. The story is that a decade after the former paper company office manager lost his job while appearing in a documentary about the work place, he still plans to “make it” as a rock star, which is being filmed by another documentary crew.

On his website blog at, he recently announced that he has started the second draft of the screenplay, David Brent: Life on the Road. He said filming will begin later in the year.

In recent years, Gervais has been testing the waters to see is there is still an audience for David Brent’s hapless antics by producing YouTube videos and, last year, performed a number of sold out live shows as Brent backed with an actual band at the Hammersmith Apollo Theatre.

David Brent: Life on the Road chronicles the traveling salesman’s life after The Office. It is not expected that any of his former colleagues will appear in the forthcoming film.

In his blog, Gervais said of the new mockumentary, "He (Brent) thinks it'll be like Scorsese doing the Rolling Stones, but we'll show the full horror.”

Gervais plans to continually chronicle the forthcoming movie, via his blog, through the premiere night, which he plans for later this year.
