In most shows, there are characters that seem untouchable. I mean, when you're watching Superman have brushes with death, you're pretty sure he'll be okay, simply because they can't kill him off.
Some TV shows have that same Superman-effect, if you get what I mean. So, essentially, there is no way that this character will die. He or she is too important, right? Scarily enough, though, now that we're in 2015 and the television medium is getting more dramatic by the day, it seems kind of like it's cool to pull a [Game of Thrones](movie:817617), killing off characters that at one time seemed like the probable lead protagonists.
Much like the Stark family from GoT, Rick and Carl Grimes seem like the two characters from [The Walking Dead](series:201193) who are certainly safe. We've seen shocking deaths recently, but Carl and Rick dying would be so devastating. Why not do it, then? I mean, it would make for great ratings, right?
Well, currently in the comics, both characters are safe, but the show is separately crafted and the producers and writers are allowed to do whatever they want. Well, the actor who plays Carl, Chandler Riggs isn't at all convinced that he's safe. Check this out. It's a great interview, but skip to around 2:15 for Chandler admitting he's scared about Carl getting killed off:
"I don't know. Whenever I get a call from Scott Gimple or any of the executives, I get really scared," Riggs said. "Last year, we were in New York and I got an e-mail from Scott to give him a call when I had a chance. [I thought], 'Please no!' He was telling me about Hershel's death."
Also, wow, what a likable down-to-earth kid! I love the part where he talks about going to public high school and just being one of the guys with his closest group of friends. I think great parenting and normalcy have made Chandler the stand-up guy he is today... even though he's a leading character on a sensational mega-hit show at 15-years-old.
So, is he safe?
Will Carl and/or Rick survive the entirety of 'The Walking Dead'?
