Attack on Titan has proven to be one of the most appealing anime ever for Western audiences, so a live-action movie may just be inevitable.

Now, we are seeing some the potential for some real momentum behind this speculation. According to Anime News Network, Sony Pictures Entertainment has registered domain names that could not be more overtly tied to the series. These include:

  • attackonthetitan-movie.com
  • attackonthetitan-movie.net
  • attackonthetitan.com
  • attackonthetitan.net
  • attackonthetitanmovie.com
  • attackonthetitanmovie.net
  • attackonthetitanthemovie.com
  • attackonthetitanthemovie.net

Looks like Sony is gearing up for something big—titanic, even.

Considering Japan is making their own pair of live-action films coming out this year, I'm really interested to see how this progresses. Attack on Titan explores a dystopian world dominated by ruthless Titans and manages to unearth nuanced and subversive critiques of society. There are plenty of action set pieces to make a blockbuster and enough intelligent commentary to please critics.

With Hollywood already pushing for a [Ghost in the Shell](movie:1224130) movie, will we start seeing a trend of anime made for American audiences?

What anime would you like to see Hollywood make into a movie?
