After months of speculation and rumors, it seems like 'Suicide Squad' has found their Rick Flag replacement!
Back in December, Variety reported the cast of the upcoming Warner Brother film, titled 'Suicide Squad'. The interwebs broke out, both in joy and fury, as they announced the film and the actors who would be included
The cast consisted of actors such as Jared Leto (The Joker), Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), and Tom Hardy (Rick Flag). Although, due to "scheduling issues", Tom Hardy had to drop out of the film.
With Tom Hardy out, that begged the question: Who would replace him, as the role of Rick Flag?
Well it seems David Ayer ('Suicide Squad' director) has found their "Rick Flag" replacement in Robocop (2014) actor, Joel Kinnaman! It was rumored that Kinnaman was a front-runner for the role, by Latino-Review, and now it seems that the scoop has been confirmed!
During an interview, with AlloCiné, Kinnaman was asked if he was involved with 'Suicide Squad' at all, and he replied with a fairly brief, but insightful statement.
All I can say is I’m going to be in the movie. It’s going to be amazing.
Although it is a brief quote, that's all we need! We now have our Rick Flag, ladies and gentlemen.
UPDATE (3/13/15): Kinnaman recently sat down with Collider and spoke a bit more on the matter of 'Suicide Squad'!
The story’s dope and David (Ayer) is just, he’s cool. You know, I think you’re always afraid when you go into like a big superhero movie that it’s gonna be kinda just action and you’re not gonna be able to just really go to the bottom of the characters, but I think he’s gonna be able to do both, really give it both depth and scale. Yeah, all the conversations that we’ve had so far have been like, ‘Wow. Okay, we’re really going there.’ So that’s fun.
Suicide Squad, starring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, and (now) Joel Kinnaman is set to release August 5th, 2016.
